After three or four years this user became a moderator, because some previous moderators quit. Not long after this, an argument about this niche within the hobby began again. It was not instigated by this user, but he vocally involved himself. Soon it was clear that those in favour of the old position, that it was accepted, were outnumbered. A real silent majority had emerged. The new moderator began banning users who defended the niche or had posted on the subforum. Other moderators also involved themselves in this ban wave, many new ones and even old ones who previously had not made any comment on it. It was a complete purge. The subforum was deleted, every user who ever posted on it or defended the niche in the arguments was banned, and though the admin unbanned most banned users, made an announcement that the niche was no longer allowed.

I continued to post on the forum for about a year, but it was not the same again. The purge always loomed in every user's memory, that maybe it could happen again with another niche. New users never knew about the niche being allowed before and thrived, but older users did not like how it turned out. The forum's atmosphere was completely different and more negative. There were many more arguments, even flamewars about other niches and such, and in the time I still went on the forum another niche was also banned. This ban was less apocalyptic, though still much shit was flung. Really it all began from one bad faith shitposter, who did not accept that the forum was for every niche of that hobby. It's impossible for this exact scenario to happen to /jav/ because it's only one general on one board of a larger site, but something comparable may happen in user demographics.
