I wish more people explored the idea of Larva being a Tokoyo God. There's a lot of interesting layers to it, from the cult of Tokoyo no Kami itself, to the concept of Tokoyo in Japanese literature. There's a lot of potential for an interesting story. I've only ever seen a single doujin explore the idea, and a couple of artists depicting Larva as a God or even just making a joke about it.
It's unfortunate.

Flandre x Rumia is super cute. They're both blonde, have red eyes, have similar hairstyles and are human eating psychos. Seeing these two put their violent tendencies aside and get together lovingly is fascinating. It warrants a Yuri doujin.

Anyway when it comes to fanon vs canon, I feel like there are some who take the official manga too seriously; they don't realize these are meant to tell a story and shouldn't be taken at face value when it comes to characterization. Hell, the whole cutesokyo vs grimsokyo debacle is an egregious example of retards not realizing canon Gensokyo dances between both based on the situation.
At the end of the day even ZUN prioritizes getting his ideas across rather than maintaining a strict canon, and sometimes contradicts himself to do so. Even in the printworks character personalities and motivations shift to fit the story. This is nothing new, but I feel like a lot of people choose to forget it.

I find the different interpretations of the bosses for the first Touhou really interesting, minus Mima since she gets more characterization later on.

It has almost no story or dialogue, but this feeling I can best describe as lonesome due to the backgrounds and odd assortment of bosses offers some cool ideas for lore. Sariel and her status of an angel, Konngara possibly being part of the Big Four, and whatever the fuck YuugenMagan is.

Canon Gensokyo can best be summed up as Grimsokyo viewed by characters for who it's cutesokyo.

For outsiders and human villagers, it's a nightmare land that they can't escape. For Reimu and co, it's a paradise build around providing endless consequence free adventures.

But thats literally not true. Only a couple characters are youkai who even do that in folklore, and even those (Like Kasen) are generally shown to move past that years ago.
In fact Yukari seems to get rid of majority of man-eaters and other troublemakers during 1st lunarian war. Those who remain are mostly animal-like one like that wolf creature they killed in FS.

Pretty much my thought on her, I consider her being more like a product of what she thinks she should be, contrasting with Remilia who also has a shade of self-expectation.
Flan thinks she should be a terrifying fearsome being and even has the power to back it up, whereas Remi thinks they should be a noble and thus covers up her own childishness.
Touhou 17.5 her motivation is to beat up Yuuma for basically being indestructible, to the point of training against her own vampiric weakness of water thanks to Okina's guidance so we can assume internally she absolutely LOATHES the idea of her power being invalidated. This is also pointed out by how her power is the only one described by being able to destroy "absolutely" anything.

A lot of man eating Youkai are still around considering being a outsider has a death rate only slightly below going to visit Somalia while wearing a dress made of diamonds. If Yukari got rid of any of them, it was mostly the once that would eat locals. Which isn't that surprising considering she herself almost certainly eats people.

There are also plenty of Youkai that don't eat people but still murder them. Like Murasa, Medicine, and Letty. Even the characters that don't activily go out of their way to kill people are still generally pretty sociopathic.

Aya and Hatate are rivals first and foremost. They don't like each other, but I doubt they would go for straight up murder. If only because Tengu are somewhat civilized and murdering rivals is only acceptable when humans are involved.

She just views everybody else, expect maybe Remilia and Sakuya, as beneath her. They exist for her gratification, and that's all the value they have.

Remilia is a bit like that as well, but she's both inwardly immature and outwardly mature than her sister. Which means her selfish attitude is generally covered in a polite veneer of civility.

Koishi is not a psychopath even if some of her dialogue might insinuate that. Her personality is shaped by her lack of conscious which makes her a free spirit. You see this in SA when she goes to Moriya Shrine looking to power up her own pets after witnessing Okuu, or in HM when she refuses to give up the old mask of hope because she’s enjoying herself in the religious war. Autistic or even sociopath would be more fitting for her.
I’m not saying she can’t have sporadic violent episodes, in fact it would be weird if she didn’t have any. I just hate it when people see Koishi as nothing but a mentally unstable killer. It's such a boring interpretation.

You know, in the age where we have a ton of print works that kind of contradict each other and the games make me kind of miss the 2011 age where people mostly made shit up. At least then we didn't have a ton of people yelling at each other using two different sources.

Fanworks usually don't have the length and the scope to explore every facet of a character all at the same time, especially if it's something like fanarts, where you're the most likely to find this type of representation for Koishi.
You can't exactly blame people for entertaining a murderous portrayal of a girl whose idea of fun is massacring and pillaging peaceful humans. It's just one of the many traits of the character.
