Yeah, that was fucking adorable. I think what I like most is the single-minded determination she has in just about everything she does, with that bare hint of self-questioning that can be brought out with the right actions by the right person.

Ciel combines just the right amount of geekiness to be approachable with just the right amount of worldliness to keep you trying your best to impress her. Your guard isn't completely lowered around this Girl Next Door, but she's indescribably comfortable to be around.

She's just jaded enough to make her company enjoyable to anyone over the age of six, but not so far gone that anyone could say she's a cold, dead husk of what used to be a person. There's still a spark in there.

She's just playful enough to be an entertaining flirt and tease, but not so much as to be outright frustrating or insensitive. She's not such a sociopath that she doesn't know when she (or you) are taking something too far and needs to stop.

Ciel isn't a good character, and she isn't a good person. She basically tells Shiki to go fight Roa on his own during Arc's route, only coming to the rescue at a point where Roa couldn't regenerate anymore, and she treats Arc and Akiha like shit for no reason. She's so caught up on her own inner demons that she'd rather sacrifice innocent lives to them, rather than even stick to what she claims are her most important principles. She probably sees Akiha in a delusional light, a representation of what Ciel herself used to be, and refuses to believe in any measure of redemption or salvation for someone inhuman. She is more caught up on being "right" about an inhuman being irredeemable than she is about anything else. She hates herself more than anything, so she projects this on to others and spitefully works to subvert any chance they have at making something good of their lives, despite the fact that Ciel herself was redeemed into a mostly-normal woman. Furthermore, she's ugly. I mean, usually I don't care about people liking heroines, but Ciel is just outright SHIT TIER.

She told him not to go to Arc's rescue, actually, because she didn't think Shiki could handle it. Once it turned out he could, she finished off Roa so Shiki wouldn't have that on his conscience. There's also the 'two birds with one stone' of letting Arc and Roa duke it out first.

From her viewpoint, their core element is 'bloodsucking monster', and her job is to destroy them. Would you be all friendly with a serial killer?

Ciel wasn't redeemed, she was weaponized. They pounded into her head for years that there's no redemption, and she believes it. That's why she works for them now; they convinced her that only by doing what they say can she be redeemed. That's also part of why her Ends are so good; when Shiki kills Roa, she turns back into a normal human, proving that redemption is possible for anyone.

I don't remember Ciel ever using deads, and the hypnosis was so she could get in close and find Roa. The end justified the means, especially considering it worked.

Incorrect. If Roa had known about the MEoDP, he'd have definitely won, that was his one mistake. He knows Ciel is around too, showing she can't sneak attack him, and he was able to sneak attack her in her own route and continue killing her so she couldn't get back up, so he has a chance to beat her. Roa is a cowardly pussy in the VN, but he's not completely useless as a villain, just mostly.

Oh, but Roa was letting her win in the manga. He genuinely enjoyed getting torn apart. It's this whole sadomasochistic deal about reviving endlessly and getting killed over and over while emotionally tormenting Arcueid the whole time, and the battle was just that on a smaller scale. I'm pretty sure he could have killed her whenever he felt like it, just like he did after the Marble Phantasm, he just didn't feel like it yet. If we're talking about the VN, sure, since he doesn't even have his hax magecraft and without his MEoDP he's basically just a slightly tougher Sacchin, but in the manga the whole thing was keikaku doori.

Personally I think Ciel's main problem is that two out of her three outfits (well actually four, but you only see her casual clothes in one lousy screen so they barely matter) are unflattering. If she wore her Serious Business outfit (w/ tats) all the time I think her fanbase would be double what it is. I found her to be a pleasant and agreeable character and I don't know where some people are getting this (she's such a bitch) thing from. Maybe they're rabid Arc fans and are mad that a vampire hunter wants to kill a vampire?

Her route was pretty weak. It was the first route I played (I went the unorthodox route of doing Arcueid last) and I already back then thought it was unfocused.
