The last time I torrented was years ago, only one non-pirated file (legally free but the link was dead), I thought "they won't notice one file and it's not piracy". The next day, my internet was cut. I tried calling my ISP many times but didn't get through. Two or three days later, the connection restored. Must be because the file was legal, that no consequences came.

VPN is an option, but surely they'll snitch if asked. A free VPN can't be used to torrent, and though I'm not completely poor, if the security is not guaranteed, it's better not risk paying for my own consequences. That's how I think about it.
