Should I read the Overlord LN in English and enjoy the story, or spend ten times as much time attempting to read it in Japanese while translating every word and not enjoying it. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

As a beginner, is reading the english translation of a manga's chapter after reading it in jap a good idea or should I try to completely forget english altogether?
It helps me to understand sentences I struggled with but I don't want to become too reliant on it, still it feels good when I notice how the translation feels less nuanced than the raws even at my shitty level

for the past few days i've been doing anki ohn my phone with a pre-made wanikani deck while putting every word I don't recognize while reading manga and browsing JP net on the empty starting anki desktop app. So throughout the day on my phone I'll get a bunch of words (so far most of which I know but I might not have the kanji well memorized yet, plus some words I don't know) and also play with the flashcards on my desktop to new words that tripped me up while using my free time to read and stuff. This is a great method right? Cause I'm alternating between a program and reinforcement of vocab I've found more chaotically. I'm new to anki and flash cards

Seriously though feels like brute forcing a bit, half of them I sort getting right all the time, and when picking a few sets I can get it right, but when venturing into everything can really get me stuck.
Also, I think they missed the suggestion to intensively rewrite each kana, as it really seem to have helped me break down that rune look into something more writable.

And also, looking back at when I tried with Rosetta Stone, feels their was actually good, with a mini-game that brings out a more intuitive side.

honestly you don't have to force kana at all, you will absorb it naturally by osmosis before you know it. focusing on it will make it seem like it's taking longer than it actually is, if that makes sense. also if you acquire even the smallest bit of vocabulary and then read furigana (even if you don't understand what you're reading) that will accelerate the learning exponentinally, rather than try ing to memorize the sounds out of context, cause your brainw ill naturally be trying to do the sounds that make sense. even just looking at kana while listening to karaoke songs will make you learn it super fast. i think just doing general japanese learning is a better way to learn kana than focusing on hard on kana specifically. it really wont' take you long though, kana is memorized very quickly. just don't psyche yourself out

Exception would be a REALLY long series to which, a few volumes, rest a bit and read something else, go back and keep progressing.

Yeah but if I can't even read the basic its literally wont make any sense,
I do actually a fair bit of familiarization, been in japan for a season, watched anime and played game for years (not all translated). So I think in terms of familiarization with the language I will do just fine, actually listening feels natural and I can pick several words, but I'm basically illiterate. (I do actually recognize a very few kanji from sign and public places, but nothing that would come off as reading).
Also I have to look into anki and whatever that is, any recommendations for linux app for that?
