It's hard for me to find anime with Japanese subtitles. I know of the usual nyaa of course. Is there a good keyword to search for to make sure it has Japanese subs?

Also I handwrite unrecognized kanji into Google translator then use dictionary to figure out its meaning. OCRs have been unreliable for me. Is there a better way of doing this? Learn to write if you're serious about the language. Making up mnemonics is useful to recognize kanji before you can recognize on the fly, kind of like learning wheels. It cuts down the ammount of times you need to see kanji to 2-5, compared to the 10+ without mnemonics. Don't use RTK, most of the readings are fucked, use KKLC and focus on recognition, not so much on getting the exact word or learning to write it.

Its just an intro statement.. kinda like preparing the listener for what you're gonna say next. For example you call into a radio show. You state what it is you're calling about, you then go into detail about it in the following statement. I don't think it conveys much information here. Dakedo is something Japanese often put in their sentences when they're explaining to someone else what they've done. The translation here is something like this
