many people are drawn to learn japanese because of the magical feelings it gives them inside and the promise of having access to the entire world of japanese media which captures so many themes that excite them. its so unfortunate then that so many lose touch with that initial motivation by letting their ego get wrapped up in the learning process. now they are hyper judgmental to themselves about the whole thing and can't even fully enjoy what they are learning and reading and listening to in the language.

It took me two days to figure out japanese IME on my debian system with kde. It's because I'm retarded.
On KDE input settings, adding a second language, even if it's not the priority (top level) changes the terminal language. This is clearly a bug, but some people on the internet say it isn't. Go fucking figure, the system is supposed to not work like it says it does.
Additionally, installing fcitx-mozc didn't work for me. It kept giving me an error asking if fcitx is running. Turns out there's a newer thing called fcitx5 which worked seamlessly.
Anyway, that's the long and short of about 3 hours of fucking around over 2 days.
Anyway, it works now. I don't really use computers ever, most of my consumption is through a smartphone and some friends I have in real life. But I'm glad I figured it out.
In summary:
I think the Linux guide should include info on the difference between fcitx and fcitx5, as I have no idea what makes them different and why one would work and another wouldn't. Thank you for coming to my TED talk, now I'm off to read a visual novel about children.
