I did core 2k/6k and there's a bunch of shit in there that I'll probably never use, but it's still a good baseline.
The Ankidrone and core 2.3k decks supposedly tried solving that issue, but I've never used either one so I can't recommend them.

Don't expect to be able to understand stuff easily after getting through one of those decks btw, you'll still have to look up shit all the time.
I'm sticking with anime and manga for now because I still manage to mine plenty of stuff and the visual cues really help. I'm not sure I would try starting with novels if I were you, other anons might disagree though.

It's for recall and to read handwritten text better. I can recognize kana, but I can't bring most of them to mind myself, and I know this problem is going to get worse once I work on kanji. With handwritten text in manga, and this is especially true in doujinshi, it can be messy enough to be hard to recognize even with OCR, which is why knowing the stroke order and how to write is important.

you can also use a brush if youre fancy
wouldn't write everything 100 times, but i find writing things 5 or so times really helps (me anyway)
as for a method, everyone will tell you writing is pointless, its unlikely youll ever write anything by hand, but it is fun, and might help you remember things (it does me)

I've come to the conclusion that memorizing the reading (recognition) + a simple sentence card is the way to go. Both card styles sentence or isolated vocab have their flaws, the first never really tests your recognition because they provide context, the second encourage you to ignore the sentence and to memorize in a vacuum, which fucks your retention long term and 'context'. Ideally, two note types reading+sentence sounds like the way to go, but condensed into one, i do a normal animecard style card with the sentence at the top rather than at the bottom. If i guess the reading right i simply read the sentence, understand it, and move on and so on.

yes this anon>>40745671 is correct. I write kanji consistently and it has even helped (sorta) with looking up kanji on jisho and takoboto. Never you mind the people talking about wasting time writing, everyone still writes and it's fundamental to connections between words and brain function. We have yet to come close to just downloading things as in the 1999 sci-fi film The Matrix. Until then, writing is the closest to downloading, (for the kanji at least).

There's really no way around having to actually do it. I downloaded a random premade anki deck that played audio on the front and had a stroke diagram on the back, eventually suspended everything once the intervals got over a year. Honestly don't really care if I lapse on ヲ.

For kanji I make my own cards from vocabulary. A lot of people say to not learn to write but it helps a lot in my opinion.
