Mushoku Toumei-sai (lets call it the Colorless festival) is in 1 week.
During the event event every song posted is going to be anonymous and every video will be colorless (just lyrics in black with text animation)

At the end of the festival the producer of a song can decide to dispel the anonymity and announce their name or repost the song with an mv.
Or they can also let it stay anonymous. This might let some popular producers post songs that are outside of their usual genre.

Anyways I'll be enjoying Kikuo's new ballad soon.

Yeah, they have this credits system implemented. One credit used for each imagesets you generate. 50 free credits given for the first month and 15 free credits each month afterwards. Those free credits are not stackable, though you can also buy credits too that doesn't have any expiry date.
About forbidden phrases, they're pretty flexible I think, but they did gave me a disclaimer that I will use it responsibly or I will get banned. I definitely won't dare to generate R-18 rated materials since they also said they will take some data from those phrases I generated.
For limitations, so far I found that they will not generate copyrighted materials and will generate a lookalike instead. Miku is probably an exception since her model is licensed using Creative Commons, but I can't actually generate something like Nintendo or Disney characters.
I also find their specific person's style reference to be pretty janky. I tried to generate some dragons artwork in one of Japanese artists style only to get some furry cartoon artworks. Oh, and if you specify 2 colors or more, it will sometimes mixed those colors' placement.

Few threads ago, there was some discussion about offline and online events. While I can't talk about offline ones, I’ve been to a few VR ones which I wanted to mention a bit.
For the first beta of the event there wasn’t an awful lot to see, only the free areas. The rhythm game was cute but mostly a novelty, the cosplay shop, the art gallery, the digital figure shop all had Miku and co. merch(virtual) and the outdoor shop had merch that you would get both virtual and physical versions of. The bgm of the areas were good(all Vocaloid songs, obviously) the only one I found odd was the randomly occurring „parade” event where they used Teo. I also stumbled into a room where they were holding a greeting with Miku so I ended up „meeting” her for the first time. It was a bit buggy and the app had a small learning curve, but spending time in a Vocaloid themed environment was a memorable experience.

For the second beta, the event got its own theme song, Happy Coaster by emon. The main area was filled with snow and ice sculptures of Miku. The rest of the rooms were mostly the same except for the new area, the Snow Dome Illumination. This event was a collab with the Snow Miku fest going on at the time, and the real Snow Miku sculpture was also included with some user submitted ones. The room had quite the atmosphere with the huge Snow Miku in the middle, the sparkling stairs around it, and the entirety of the White Luminescence album playing in the background. During the main hours, this place would randomly go dark and Snow Miku would perform to the Snow Miku theme song, Fondant Step.

Third time was a "mini", with the main area being sakura themed. It was during the spring Voca-colle, which they collaborated with, using some of the top songs as bgm for the main area. Hearing 凹面黙示録 and the others for the first time was a nice surprise. My personal highlight for this event however, was winning the lottery to be able to buy a ticket to one of the acoustic lives. So I got to experience my first VR live.

Summer Vacation was the first non-beta event, and the special-rooms now required a paid-pass. There were 3 new areas, a Parasol beach, a Mermaid stage and a haunted house. The main area was themed after a summer festival with stalls and lanterns. They got 2 event specific songs, Mankai Diving(marasy) for the stage, and Warera wa Hare(Iyowa) for the bon-dance, so the atmosphere was top notch. The “parade” for this occasion was a bon-dance starting up every now and then in the main area. Miku and co. would appear around the center lantern dancing to the song, fireworks showing up, etc. Doing the bon-dance even with strangers was a fun experience. Also, the Parasol beach would change between daytime and sunset depending on the time of day, the bgm changing along from Shoujo Rei to Asagao no chiru koro ni. There was one other new room since this event, the photo contest one. This was a simple room with a huge summer Miku in the middle, surrounded by walls where people were encouraged to put up pictures they took during their visit. The bgm here was 8/31 by Deco, since the event coincided with Miku’s birthday.

Yosakura 2022 had 2 themes, one for the celebration of the 10th anniversary of Senbonzakura, the other the 14th Birthday of Rin and Len. Both having their respective areas themed around them, and the twins getting a theme song by OSTER. The third new area was Detective Miku’s office, with several puzzles to figure out. It was the first time I managed to get my hands on the prize for solving them. The atmosphere was spot-on, with Senbonzakura for its own world, Yellow Letter Song for the post office world, and the Detective office having the off-vocal version of Gehenna(Wotaku).(and if you solved the mystery, the vocal version would kick in, that was a nice touch)

I just wanted to talk about this for a while now, to show that online events can be pretty fun as well, and figured it was about time, since the next event got announced recently.

And to add a bit to the concert side, I've also been to Space Dive 2022 earlier this year. Everyone else was displayed as a default avatar, but it allowed a lot more people to be in one place without tanking performance, which ended up being acceptable. The people getting too close to the stage with glowsticks out were annoying though. It was a bit barebones, but in the future it can totally be a thing.

i don't think it's another case of "producers saying fuck it and delete it all." as you've said, he just released a new song and he's doing well all things considered for a new producer. i checked the comments before the channel is down and they're positive, the last Twitter post seems to be him saying that "sorry for uploading the song so late, i wanted to watch jurassic park until the end." and the latest twitter interaction seems to be someone suggesting to upload their songs early and set it as a premiere so he doesn't have to worry about it.

so the usual suspects (lack of will to create, negative feedback etc.) are out of the question. I'd like to think that he's just hacked (which is unlikely considering it's not just one site) or there's something else behind the curtain.

Vocaloid song covers (or even simultaneous collab releases) are shit in like 95% of cases because the singers aren't even "in-character" and just sound generic. The contrast is painfully noticeable.

Same here, and yeah that's because most of the commissioned songs are probably created just like that. Like for the Beat Eater example, you can tell it was written with the intention of being sung by a group of people with different parts of the song, since after all it was commissioned specifically for the game. Even then there are still many of the commissioned songs I prefer the Vocaloid version though, but that doesn't make the Sekai versions bad (some of the Sekai covers of existing songs are godawful though, like 90% of L/N covers)

It's not shit taste to enjoy something different my dude, it's true that 95% of random utaite covers are low effort but if people enjoy the music, that just brings more exposure to the producer since otherwise they wouldn't even be listening to the song at all. I know multiple people who were previously secondaries and got into Vocaloid through random utaites or, more recently Project Sekai (though prsk is not exactly secondary tier anyway, kind of a middle ground)

In some cases, I'd agree. In others, specifically in the case of English dubbers, they put the actual song at the VERY BOTTOM of the description under a bunch of word vomit, and put no attempt in making it stand out in any way. I can't even remember which song it was, but for one of them, when I googled it several years back, it stated that the song was "written by JubyPhonic", when it obviously wasn't. There's also what happened to Miy_yuu's cover of Wozwald, where the actual song often gets shat on for "not being as good as the cover." I like utaites, even follow some of them, but others are seriously annoying, even if it isn't their fault.

Someone not into vocaloid might argue human variants are better because more genuine while vocaloid variants lack randomness (which is regarded as a quality). A human performing a song twice in a row won't be able to do it exactly the same each time. If you believe there is any value in the intrinsic imperfection of humans then you'll likely prefer human variants. I don't think it's a logical conclusion and it might be biased but at the end of the day you like what you like and that doesn't make something objectively better than something else

It depends on the genre.
The imperfection of human expression is all well and good, but it really shines with acoustic or live-performed music. With highly quantized, rigid music, it doesn’t mesh well. IMO Vocaloid is more well suited to those styles.
You see this in proseka with songs like teo, the human versions sound bad because they can’t hit the notes sharply enough. Conversely, vocaloid doesn’t mesh well with a 1-track acoustic guitar live performance unless there’s godly tuning.
There’s probably a reason why singer-songwriters strum their guitars and Vocaloid artists focus on strong beats and engaging melody.

Being an adult male voicebank makes him niche by default and unlikely to be picked up by big producers. In the 15 years since Miku started the vocaloid craze not a single vocaloid voiced by an actual male managed to reach even Kaito's medium level of popularity, and most of his comes from being associated with Crypton. As for the fujos, the majority are just good at making art and not music. The only big fujo producer I can think of was the one who made the visual kei songs like Imitation Black.

Biased opinion incoming since I'm a Lenfag, but I feel Kaito just has a way more narrow niche. He's always just the mildly kermit-sounding older guy that requires godly tuning to work well, his design is also way more boring in my opinion

Len can be depicted from a hot bishie all the way to a cute trap or shota and has a very versatile voice range that works with many different kinds of tuning. He also gets more exposure from always being paired with Rin, some people who are not usually fans of male vocals usually end up listening to a little bit of Len too just due to Rin duets and getting used to his voice.
