It does have a manga adaptation in much the same style as the anime adaptation.
But I wonder if the original image sets would qualify as manga. I guess they're still pages of a comic much the same so I suppose so.

Then again the official product page doesn't classify them as manga and I don't think it's standard to refer to cg sets in that manner even though they are often indistinguishable from webcomics or webseries. Anyhow, the official manga is in itself an adaptation.

With the release being based on a Japanese all ages release, and being a lower profile title, it is hard to think that it will get the same kind of "technically unofficial patch" that Baldr Sky did if Giga insists for the release to be all ages. Well, there was Doukyuusei case also where all ages steam verrsion was basically remade-rewritten to the level of completely new vn, with another MC's personality -compared to already censored 18+ version. If there are companies willing to do so much amount of work rewriting the whole script in addition to providing 18+ patch on the side restoring original script (i.e. there were probably two teams - one was translating the original and other was rewriting it) - for other companies it wouldn't be so hard to use the same approach, right? In other words if you are going to translate original text anyway - before making edits - it wouldn't be hard to make patch keeping that translated text before beginning butchering it. It all depends on the goodwill and principles of localizers - it wouldn't be possible to restore Doukyuusei to its 18+ glory by fans efforts after all - if DMM decided to release only butchered all ages version - since amount of edits there is on the level of writing new vn from the scratch. And I am not talking here about old 1992 year Doukyuusei or even 1999 year Doukyuusei remake. It's just difference between two versions of 2022 year Doukyuusei.

Most do it for free. There is one patreon that can think of off the top of my head (Capu Translations). That said, you'll probably make more money for less effort handtranslating some web/light novel series, though I suppose that's a crowded field. If you can actually handtranslate, you're probably good enough for an official VN company (all of which are pretty desperate for competent translators willing to work for very low wages though they'll probably slap a few nukige on you at first).

Oh, if you were talking about eroge, I was just going to wing it. I assume there's always titles/makers with some niche that really wants translations so I figured it's a matter of looking into what are the most hyped ones (within the realm of like 10-30hr games and not monster kamige). Well, personally I don't care that much how butchered the censored version is as long as the company makes the intended version available somewhere. It's a bit annoying but Valve being what they are I can see how many companies want to err on the side of caution here.

The VN version is entirely rewritten and expanded and has like 8-10 hours of playtime.
Creator of the franchise said it's not in the steam release because the translation team couldn't handle doing the main game and it at the same time.

Patreon/commissions/crowdfunding are the only way to make real money with VNs. They make more in a month or on 1 project than official translators do in several years. LNs and manga are even better. I've seen hentai commissions 1 page translation = 50 bucks and people pay that. Many pages only have moans on them and sfx that don't even get translated and that's still 50 bucks lol. VN commissions you'd have to ask a lot of money to make it worth it, say 5-10k per project more for long VNs.

>>40592021
Dunno if he's still around but an anon was willing to shell out 30 grand USD for a Monobeno translation. Sounds fake but I can imagine a lolicon actually being serious. Crowdfunding would be much easier and safer but desu I'd be wary of taking money for VN translations. The cartel is everywhere.

Does anyone have any knowledge about Siglus Engine? I'd love to make a Rewrite patch which backports the new translation into the unfucked version of the game but it seems like literally nobody in the community has the tools to modify Siglus in a meaningful way, nor any clues as to how one could be made. Yeah I've seen both developers of these tools asked about it, they unfortunately don't have the ability to actually modify the scene code itself, only single strings. Which, in the context of Rewrite+ with its many many cut lines and scenes, isn't enough to make an actually meaningful patch unfortunately. The Angel Beats fan translators also weren't able to do this either. Dunno about the Chicchakunai Mon guy, but I'm not optimistic at this point.

Evan quit because he had been working on a kiminozo script even before going offical and when it came to talks about actually using said script for some fucking reason both parties decided to part ways instead. Neither side ever stated why it was but the main ideas are that anchor/avex wanted to do the all ages version of the game and not provide a patch which would be a gigantic loss in both writing quality and content, or that anchor/avex were being kikes and was refusing to pay decent money for the script. This idea mostly comes from the fact his girlfriend would later state on social media that she won't be supporting whatever kiminozo translation ends up releasing because she's opposed to cheap labor rushjob translations

VN translators get paid criminally low rates in general, and he probably didn't have a strong bargaining position if he had already translated some or all of it before negotiating the pay. Pretty sure MG are the only company left that pay like shit.
Everyone else pays above 2 cents per character and I remember Steiner saying that he translates 8000-12000 characters a day which would mean they get $160-$240 a day at minimum, assuming they did a full days worth of work. Even at their low rates of 1.5-1.75 cents per character translators are still getting paid a decent amount.
It's anime translators that get paid in peanuts, pretty sure they get like $50 per episode or something like that.

I'm sure that your local Walmart is hiring, but you won't make it as an assistant manager if you can't do math. Glassdoor says the average assistant manager in the USA is making $56,873 per year. That is substantially more than Steiner would make if he works 4 days a week, 52 weeks a year, translating 10,000 characters per working day at a rate of 2 cents per character. Frankly, I feel bad for anyone that accepts a rate like 1.5 cents. I mean I understand that some people just enjoy working on weeb shit but that is borderline exploitation.

Yeah, no shit. But translating VNs, anime, manga LNs and games is much easier than whatever you're suggesting especially considering most of the translators in this industry have no formal degree in translation or Japanese and are are mostly just self-taught weebs. LNs, games and VNs are also much more dense and easier to translate than something like a newspaper or official documents so it's going to be a constant stream of money (the average VN is somewhere around 700-800k moji) unless you somehow think translating legal documents and such is on the same level as a Yuzusoft game.

Most eroge lines are extremely simple to translate and with enough experience you can probably translate most lines with little thought so it becomes a case of how fast you can type. Editors also exist which means the wording of your translation doesn't really matter much.

Steiner isn't just talking about VNs in that post though, Steiner mostly works on LNs which would qualify as "more ordinary fiction translation" would it not?
>why doesn't MG just go ahead and use MTPE?
Because JP->EN MTL is still awful and it would be almost the same workload checking over the output and fixing all the mistakes, I remember NTRanon saying something similar when DeepL first came out. Wording obviously does matter to some extent which is why I included "much" in my post. You obviously have to accurately translate the text, but that translation can have grammatical mistakes, typos, strange wording and even a few accidental mistranslations because your TLC/editor will clean all that up.
