Its basically a SRPG with Dating Sim in it. You play as the dude in the middle, you have three women to chose from, marry one, you get a son (who gets the stats and all that from daddy and mommy), play as him (appearance changes on the chosen mother btw) and do the same. Goes on for five generations.

It's all ages, but yeah gets crap past the radar very nicely.

I like the game, but I've been playing too much Demon's souls.

Is it better then Disgaea 3, well combat-vise kind of yes, it's a good game but it's also kind of last gen...

Ugh dear god, Agarest, I don't get where is the AWESOME part in that crap.

The gameplay is good I'll admit, the AP and link system pretty much makes battles faster and still requires you to use your head to judge how and to which extent you want to damage the enemies.
The IA however SUCKS, it's totally unpredictable, in a bad way, and confusing. For example, two units, one with a few HPs, the other with full health, the IA can and will attack the one with full health instead of dealing the death blow to the dying chrarcter. And it even looks like it doesn't know how to estimate overkills when you set to AUTO, because the game will just burn all the APs on a single enemy.
And the battle maps are pretty much the same 3d background but with different enemies, and once you'll stick to field you aren't going to change it.

The story is so clichèd and even screams Lord of The Ring on some points, the way the land was created with the stuff about the gods fighting among themselves reminds me of the Silmarillion, I don't even need to mention what reminds me of the Bracelet of Covenant and how it corrupts its wielder, and of course the hordes of darkness are goblin and orcs, because you can't have evil without orcs and goblins nowadays.
Also I love the epilogue, really it's hilarious, "In exchange of your soul and that of your descendents I will give you no power whatsoever and heal all your wounds", "Of course I'll curse all my bloodline without even clarifing the terms of this devilish pact in the name of some elven kid I don't even know the name of !"...

And finally character devevolpement, it's simply not there, the sensation was that of reading a book while skipping pages, sometimes they'll just end up knowing things because you're supposed to imagine the conversation was going on while you were fighting the same fights over and over and over again.

For all this Agarest is a mediocre game and a bad VN.

No disc version for US release. UK release has shitty translation/grammar late in the game. Stupid fuckers. I want to play it though.

A bit irritating yes.

Game would get a 7/10 I'd say.

At least the voice acting is good, but I can't help but laugh at the characters screaming their final moves' like in those old mecha animes.
Seriously, what the hell were they smoking.
