So I finally started Tsukihime the other week, and I'm totally confused. You'll have to forgive me if this is common knowledge, but...

Who the hell was the kid at the end of Ciel's route? He just shows up and is all cryptic, then he does "something" and says I don't need him and leaves.

What the fuck is up with that?

Grand total of about 8, but only 3 matter to Tsukihime.

1. Tohno Shiki, main character.
2. Tohno SHIKI, Evil vampire foster brother
3. Nanaya Shiki, nightmare of the main character's true form

Note that there's like 3 Nanaya Shikis from the Melty Blood series, and 3 variants of a different character called Ryougi Shiki.

There's really only four Shikis.

Tohno Shiki, Nanaya, Ryougi, and SHIKI.

Ryougi and Tohno only ever cross paths in a one off fighting game, and SHIKI is pretty much completely ignored except for the Akiha, Hisui, and Kohaku routes.

>> No.4041325

So, let's see if I've got this straight. There's this guy, called Shiki. Except he's not really Shiki, because the real Shiki was SHIKI who killed Shiki and then Shiki took SHIKI's place because SHIKI's father killed him, and Shiki didn't really die after all.

Except SHIKI didn't really die, so then he got obsessed with killing Shiki. Meanwhile, Shiki got linked to SHIKI through mystical magical bullshit and then SHIKI's memories started flowing into Shiki.

And then Shiki got the best eyes ever. Except not, because they give him migrane headaches. And insanity.

And there's this other Shiki, who is Shiki's repressed memories called Nanaya, who doesn't really exist at all, but Shiki needed to create another Shiki to deal with his trauma or something.

So in the end, Shiki kills SHIKI and Nanaya never existed in the first place, so he stops being a delusion, and Shiki resolves to be himself, which is Shiki. Except SHIKI wasn't SHIKI at the time, he was Roa.

And then somewhere along the line, Ryougi, who there are also three of, but each one is a different personality, exists. She/he/whatever-the-fuck-a-void-is, is important in some way I have no idea about yet.

...Is that the gist of it?

>>4041006

This is probably the weirdest one. His continued existence is due to the power of Tatari within White Len. White Len's continued existence is dependent on receiving mana from Shiki, who she's taken as her master.

Ryougi's target IS "origins", but the extent of her abilities is questionable. Much of her supposed power is derived largely from her BRAGGING and not things that she actually did. Nonetheless, regardless of the type of eyes an Aristotles won't have a concept of death that they can cut.

Arcueid is, to a degree, an Aristotles - although she has yet to become Archetype Earth, if that is even a possibility for her. As such, her lines disappear at her times of power and she has no concept of death then.

Both Ryougi's eyes and Tohno's eyes cut the lifespan of their target.

>“While it’s said that he’s seeing death in form, to be more precise, he isn’t seeing death, but reading the lifespan of the material, the limit of existence that was determined at point of origin.”
-Part of the Chokushi no Magan entry in the Tsukihime Tokuhon

>“The scribble-like lines always flowing around that Ryougi Shiki sees. These are present in any and all things, and by cutting them through blades, it is possible to “cut” an object having these lines. There is no strength to these lines, so no matter what the object it is, it can be killed equally. The death lines are not lines “where the object is cut easily” but the concept of the lifespan of existence taken form. Strictly speaking, this is not taking apart the object by cutting along the lines, but killing the object by cutting its lifespan. It might be easier to understand this as meaning, not physical destruction, but erasing existentially. Shiki is a living being so it’s easier for her to see the lines of the living. This is because she can easily understand the “death of a living being” as another living being. To see the death lines of minerals/concepts, she has to become a mineral, or put her brain on full throttle and “imagine” it. To make things short, she can’t see the end (lines) of an existence beyond human comprehension.”

Causes a predestination paradox. Something can't have a "predetermined death" if it can occur early. Also violated by numerous instances of lines changing in availability, number, and thickness.

It's best not to think of it as a predetermined death, but a limit imposed at creation. It is literally that which binds the soul to the material plane.

>Also violated by numerous instances of lines changing in availability, number, and thickness.

Lines can only be seen on something which "can be killed at the present time." It's not that the limit disappears, but that it can no longer be seen by the eyes.

From Fuyuki Wiki:
>And as said in the game, lines cannot be seen on those things that can't be killed (broken) in the present era. The base power of a human user of these eyes work in relation to the limits of the humans of that era. And obviously, as an extension of that, the base power an Earthling user, be it person or object, of these eyes is going to work in relation to how the system of Earth works. Be it rock, stone, salamander, or concept, as long as it was born in this world, there's going to be something fundamentally similar with hairy apes.

>> No.4042882

>Kinoko: It's not quite so much the eyes, but how (R) Shiki perceives things that has a large effect on her powers. First, Mystic Eyes and brains work as a set. For example, Tohno Shiki from "Tsukihime" normally can't cut concepts like Shiki does, but that's because the specs of the Mystic's Eye's user's brain is different. Tohno Shiki isn't suited in the aspect of recognizing "concepts". (Ryougi) Shiki touched " " and became specialized in the visualization of events, while (Tohno) Shiki became submerged in death and became specialized in killing living things. By the way, Asagami Fujino's Mystic Eyes also work the same way. In her case, she can't twist things that she recognizes as not being twistable.

Both Shikis are connected to the same Akasha and it's the brains that are different not the eyes.
