hello friends, i'm new to buying fumos. how often does gift open orders/preorders for fumos? do they only release a batch of fumos a few times per year? i've already preorder'd patchouli but i want to know if they'll release another batch a few months from now. thanks friends

Big batches of fumos are release twice a year during Reitaisai.
Most of the time Fumos were sold online on official Giftshop website but Gift started to use Amiami as retailer for past two and half years.
And you're lucky because Gift and Amiami seen their fuck up of website crashing during sale and angry customers so now they made two small sales on demand.
For sure they will make big batch for next Reitaisai but with new smaller sales i'm not sure how often Gilf plan to do them during whole year.
Maybe they will keep small sale monthy or it's just test to check out demand and how trustworthy Amiami customers are, who knows.
And keep in mind some Fumos shown up on sell only once during last decade.

In my opinion, V1 is definitely worth getting over V1.5 if you can afford it. They used to run for 17k+ yen but they seem to run cheaper now that V1.5 are around. I got mine a couple weeks ago for 15.5k and they might get even less expensive.
V1.5 is so cheap in comparison that it's worth just getting both if you can.

As for how you get them now I don't actually know if they restock but if not your best bet is to search on the second hand market. When TWEWY got an anime adaptation they released plushes of all the characters present in the front cover of the first game, AKA Neku, Shiki, Beat, Rhyme, Joshua and Mr. Mew. I own Neku, Beat and Rhyme, and Rhyme has been the one I've been using the most when taking these kinds of pictures.

This is a Version 1 Remilia fumo I bought 10 years ago in 2012. I don't have the box it shipped in anymore but the tag is still on there and she is in excellent condition (but not perfect).
Any price check on this? I'm not sure how much this is worth I only see version 1.5s for sale.

She tends to go for around 10~12k new, so an used one in good condition is probably worth around 5~6k yen, if you sell it in japan.
Selling elsewhere is more a matter of finding someone interested enough, at which point you could charge even more or be forced to charge less depending on their interest.

so ive been watching ebay for a while and have a couple theories, but lemme get it out of the way that i have sold on ebay before. granted, i sold at prices well below $100, so im not of the scalper variety. i just got really lucky in a sale and got more fumos than i knew what to do with, and so sold the excess stock to hopefully spread the love.

that said, around the time i was selling fumos, a typical fumo price was around $150, on average. that's what was being sold on ebay time and time again. and this was before the MTO sales started being a thing.

now i'm checking ebay and seeing prices for brand-new fumos selling around $110-125, with a few going below $100 as of late. as you mentioned, MTO is the primary driver of this, but whats weird is that the prices of EVERY fumo variety has seemingly gone down (save for the immortally scalped Cirno, poor girl). as of now, i can see a Rumia for $85, an Eirin for $89.10, and a Reimu for $100--all new, in their packaging. why is this? would not only the fumos being sold MTO be reduced in price, as you've postulated?

well, here's what i think is going on. scalpers are profit-driven, single-minded entities that exist solely to leech off of a fad. you had the same thing with beanie babies back in the mid-late 90's. the price of the plushies went WAY beyond their initial sale value because people wanted le famous ploosh. but it wasn't just that they were famous; it was also that they were scarce. only so many of each beanie baby was ever made available for sale, and beanie babies were retired after a while to keep them valuable.

but the second you take away that scarcity, for any product on the product line, by introducing MTO, that illusion starts to shatter for resalers. they don't know if THEIR resold plushies will be next on the metaphorical chopping block. simultaneously, buyers now know feel that they can afford to sit tight and wait for their plushies to be sold MTO instead of buying from a resaler at an exorbitant markup. these two phenomena fuel each other, and so prices fall for ALL products, save for ones released recently like Renko and Miko that still have a perceived scarcity to them. (after all, Gift probably won't make their newest products MTO, they'd probably start from their oldest and most recognizable and move "down" from there)

as for why Gift ever went MTo to begin with, i'd imagine they don't exactly love their products being resold at insane markups and them not getting any of that money. once they had the capital to move to MTO in batches, they likely went for it to capitalize on the fad, but tell resalers to eat a dick and let the original manufacturer get the profits.

tl;dr yes, i do think the ebay scalpers will be dying off, and the resale value of fumos as a whole will hopefully drop over the next year or two due to perceived increase in supply.

Kanako, Okuu, Aki sisters, Tsukasa, Chimata, etc. Kanako and Okuu not being fumos already is criminal. The customs for these characters are awesome but crazy expensive and you have to wait forever for their coms to reopen if you miss or get unlucky if they fill up too fast. During the first one there was a lot of traffic for the first hour or so, but after that it got a lot more stable and the order times are over two weeks in length, so you'll definitely get your order in as long as you remember to order it during the given time window.

Artist's Twitter name is @lesCherries. Unfortunately his commissions closed very quickly after opening up recently. He took more than average orders this time and so it will be awhile (maybe a few months or more) before he reopens. If I had to guess: 1. She's got a complicated design. Probably the most likely as she has many other characters beaten for amount of different little elements they'd have to make. She's got a bow, a somewhat complex skirt, a chest eye crystal, wings, two different boots/shoes, an arm cannon and a complex cape. They're gonna wait a while before tackling her design. 2. Her popularity may be high but according to the Touhou Wiki online poll, there are still other characters out there who are more popular and lack official fumos still, such as Kogasa. In the top 20 only Kogasa lacks a fumo. In the top 30 only Seija lacks one. In the top 40 Suika, Futo, Sagume, Hecatia and Okuu lack offical fumos. Okuu is ranked the 39th most popular character in the pol. Sure using a small website for polling may be a little flawed but it got a good level of responses. Debating if I wanna get an Alice during this preorder to replace the one I already have. The one I have now I got off of SolarisJapan, and didn't come with a badge. It also has a weird bit in the hair where it looks like they put on too much glue or something, which you can see in this pic. Hello /fumo/, I hope you are all having a great week. I finally received my softs from the Reitaisai sale, and I could not be happier. I was really surprised with how perfectly Ran and Chen's fluff and overall feel matched real animal ears' consistency, and the Reisen ears being bendable was a pleasant surprise. Yukari is perfect, I just wish GIFT would make one of her purple gown. She also changes my desk lamp different colors, which is a surprise bonus.

To those who are in waiting hell, there's still hope, hang in there. I chose EMS, for reference. My fumo family hopes all of you find your softs, and have a lot of fun this weekend!
