I think Onisarashi/Kageboushi gets interesting later as a look at the impact of the GHD outside of Hinamizawa. That said, the beginning is extremely slow, although the pay off hits much better there than in the Onisarashi manga since there's just more story and build up to it all. The manga does too fast to the point things lack impact.

There's always Tsukiotoshi if you want a messy arc with multiple cast members going L5. It's a bad end version of Tatarigoroshi though, and the 07th mod version skips to when the arc splits from it, so you miss all the changes that lead to it.

Miotsukushi PS2 (not Omote) is a pretty good alternative to Matsuri, although it has its own peculiarities that can put off people.

Kotohogushi generally seems well liked, not even divisive like Miotsukushi. Although Hanyuu just doesn't feel like Hanyuu and it's blatantly non-canon by this point.
