Not the anon you replied to, but that has always been a popular complaint. The first half of Fate route is partially the introductory route and hence spends too much time doing exposition with characters unrelated to the route itself.
The two points you addressed are pretty much the same. Like, yeah there are romantic implication between Saber and Shirou, but these are next to very lengthy explanations, not to mention that some of the romantic implications between Shirou and Saber early on are there as a result of Nasu's character writing, where there will always be some of these even outside the heroine's route, not for the MC and heroine to come and understand each other or learn more about their past and goals...etc. These don't become noticeable until the Assassin/Rider fights.

I always felt that those earlier romantic scenes built the foundation of what was to come a few days later. Shirou and Saber also definitely try and get a fix on each other in those scenes. In particular, Saber is immediately suspicious of Shirou's desire to save her without thinking of himself. In fact, she's the first heroine to figure out his lack of self worth. Similarly, Shirou is very interested in who she is, and what she wants. There is definitely buildup there, although I can see how it being undercut by exposition could be harmful (I personally never found it harmful)

Nasu's KINO prose is unironically untranslatable. All of it's subtext and metaphors are hidden for the people who want to see them and easily ignored for the people who don't want to see them.

The opening scene F/SN is beautifully written imo and the English T/L doesn't even come close. It's pretty famous in the VN world and commonly quoted.

Nasu's best prose is in the long rambling internal monologues that get completely omitted from the anime

I've some people say it unironically so I can't tell. The manga is lifting a lot from the anime and is clearly written for people who have experienced both VN and anime. It's clear that in the eyes of most Nips the 2014 anime is the definitive adaptation and that Moriyama did not intend the manga to be anything like the HF one. It's just really baffling.

I think the reason people say that is because a lot of if not most non-Rinfags don't pay any attention to her outside of HF and even there they consistently let a couple of scenes overwrite their entire impression of the character. So for them Rin becomes le epic cold badass who is constantly suppressing her feelings to be like heckin Kiritsugu rather than a girl defined by the contradiction between her outward strength and inner weaknesses and insecurities. Leads to a lot of shit takes.
