yes you should mine words, and the kanji in there, you need to know some 3k of them eventually
as to what cards to use, it really matters very little, you get most your gains from reading, the cards are just to help you not forget the things you read
def stay away from tatsucuckhold spam cards, you can try sentence cards if you want, but thats just reading but worse
i just make a card per version of the word
keep in mind many things can be written in many ways, kanji aren't really words per se, at most theyre nuances
