Hell, most people who don't buy colab dolls build their favorite characters. It's totally doable and not out of the ordinary in price. It can vary a lot depending on if you want exact accessories or just the doll herself.
average expense for the doll and eyes/wig: $2-300 for the head+faceup commission, around $325-350 for the body, assuming US dollars and Volks. Wig shouldn't be too hard to find an 'off the rack' version for around $25-30, double that for a custom. Eyes around $20-30. The dress and jacket can get outrageous depending on the seamstress and how accurate you want it. I couldn't begin to give you an estimate on that, but look around on taobao, there are a TON of 'cos-play' bjd clothes makers that make similar things to what you need, as well as 1:1 knock offs of anime and gaming characters.

They won't fit well at all, but if you're looking for an oversized shirt for a particular look they can work. Pic related, took this a few years ago, the Frozen shirt is for an American Doll and I used a seam ripper to take off the neck band (I don't know what it's really called) to give it a oversized off the shoulder look. Not sure if trolling or genuine question, but I'll answer as if it is a legit question. The photos you see on these bootleg listings are 99.9% of the time photos of the legit doll stolen from Instagram (and this applies to all bootlegs, not just dolls). You're about to get catfished. There is a noticeable quality difference with vinyl dolls in particular. You'll also be stuck with the bootleg since you can't really sell them anywhere. At best, you'll get like $20 from some kid on Mercari Local. Realistically, you'll have to trash it or donate it. My personal opinion is that as tempting as they are, your money is better saved up for the higher quality, legit version which you can easily sell for the price you bought it for or even more depending on the state of the secondhand market. One thing I like about vinyl dolls vs resin dolls is that there are GOOD looking options in all budgets, not just the (let's be honest) fugly brands you have to recommend when someone wants a semi-realistic resin BJD. Can you share your budget and the size you're looking for?

Silicone bodies deteriorate much quicker than comparable vinyl dolls if you actively pose them often, I wouldn't recommend getting one if that's what you like to do. Obitsu are usually considered pretty flexible, durable, and easy to get replacement parts, just be aware they're about 10cm shorter than a standard DD body

I managed to find some comparison photos of a f3 vs obitsu, and surprisingly they seemed fairly even. The obitsu won slightly in leg flexibility, and the f3 in wrists. Both are still not quite what I had hoped for. I would also have to use a dd head adaptor which seems like a pain.

I wasn't a fan of evoke's flabby joints, and the wire skeleton worried me.

Anyone have any faceup experience? I ordered a blank vinyl head and wanna give it a shot myself. I've seen mixed takes on Testors dullcote but it's much easier to get where I live than MSC. I've also seen mixed opinions between stuff like watercolor pencils and acrylic paints, is one better than the other or is it just style?

Not really better than the other so much as just being different. Acrylics are permanent and don't need fixing with MSC between layers, but that also means if you fuck up you can't undo it easily. Watercolor pencils are going to give you a softer line, and won't get you the hard edge look of a finely brushed paint line. I don't know what your level of painting experience is but I would say do some practice before jumping into painting a head, it's harder on a head than on a flat surface.

Unless you have an airbrush, it's hard to get soft edges with acrylics. Ground up pastel applied with a fat brush work really well for it, though.

I had never done the full service with her, bummer about the wigs. I just did a Set B custom with her and it's still my favorite head that I have. There's going to be horror stories wherever you try and sell them. If they're vinyl, post what you have here and you might get some bites, also DollDreaming forum has an active marketplace, but you do need a post threshold before you can do it. Kind of a pain if you don't want to be in the hobby anymore, but just write some nice compliments on peoples pictures and you'll get there soon enough.
