I think it was a landslide - caused by other a bomb, or the typhoon. It's quite likely the former, in my opinion, since a human could have done that.

The whole point of Knox's 5th is to prevent any stupid Deus Ex Machina shit from occurring. We never saw bombs, nor were given any clues that bombs were the cause of everyone's deaths. The only basis that the bomb theory has is that "it's possible that this occurred without violating any red text", but this would be absolutely retarded and unsolvable with the type of logic that mystery tries to get you to use.

If Knox's 5th doesn't outlaw this, then I propose this theory: One of the relatives, probably Krauss (since he knew that the relatives would try to eat him out for money), used his influence to hire a mercenary force that would wipe out everyone on the island except for himself, Natsuhi, and Jessica. However, because of the darkness and chaos brought on by the typhoon, they accidentally killed Krauss and his family because they didn't have a good description of their looks and were unable to tell them from other relatives; they just killed everyone.

This is now the "Mercenary Theory". Disprove it WITHOUT Knox's 5th.
