Discussion about editing, a definite CG patch, and a potential voice patch. Old thread is on auto-sage.

Previous threads:

Patches can be found at the above link.

So far, people have been slowly hacking away at grammar issues in the first chapter. Someone has indicated that they're impartial to making a CG patch. The only remaining thing is a voice patch, which apparently, only one person knows how to make. A method of making the process automated has yet to be looked into, so manual insertion is necessary.

The text style is probably not specified in the text itself, but in one of the other parameters to the call that does it in the actual script. But if you notice anything unusual about the inline text, do post about it here.

I'll have to finish the text-only patch first, then edit into versions with PS2 BG/sprites/CG combinations. (CG's won't take too long though, since you only have to add them as backgrounds and take out sprites during the scenes in question.)

You completely miss the point of RWI. It's not about getting all the scripts, editing them, then uploading a whole bunch of changes that may likely overwrite someone else's. That's why it's specifically designed to be DIFFICULT for you to do that.

Instead, you should update each line as you progress through the script, so that others can see your changes *as soon as possible*. That is the entire point of RWI over a wiki or some other unstructured format --- to enhance multiuser concurrency and transparency. Of course it's going to be slower from the point of a single worker, but together, the achieved throughput is higher.

Serious fucking spoilers after this point, and I'm not gonna tag em. You aren't a child, you can not read them.

I just got to the part where K1 is about to buy "Mion" the doll, then he realizes that Shion and Mion are different people after all, and Mion sees K1 buying Shion the doll.

I actually felt so bad for K1 that I stopped reading momentarily.

Cudder. The interface is absolute shit. It's clunky and inefficient. The only redeeming characteristic about it is that there's means to get around that inefficiency by pulling scripts from the interface. Your points only really work under the assumption that a larger group is working on it. However, honestly, there's only like 4, maybe 5, people actively working on it.

I think a real Suversion System with proper changing history tracking and editors to compare the changes you're about to commit with changes someone might've commited while you were editing, highlighting the parts that are different etc. would be best. It might be more work to set it up 1. on a server and 2. on everyone's respective computer though.

>> No.3964190

What do you mean by NIGHTMARE MODE? Like when shit starts happening to K1 or in general?

If I remember correctly Shion takes Mion to the dungeon after Watanagashi along with the village elder. Then Shion is the Mion from then on. You never see them together until the very end. And by that time Mion is already broken from torture/watching torturing.

How is it inefficient? You'll find it's even more inefficient if you spent time editing only to find someone else had already worked on the same part. And actually, there are over 10 anons who have contributed to it so far.

I don't understand your obsession with inefficiency. So you're saying it's a net loss if someone does 50 lines at once, and they overwrite 15 lines that someone else did? What even are the chances of that happening? Have you checked the logs to see if all 10 anons tend to edit all at the same time? I've managed not to watch the anime and ignored all the peer pressure by fellow otakus. Now I feel so grateful since I can finally play the VN.

Compared to Umineko, there's no god-tier music, some of it sounds cliched though still effective. Higurashi is also more character-driven rather than Umineko's plot/mystery-driven. Rena, Mion, Satoko or Rika are easily more interesting as characters compared to Jessica, Ange, Maria or Beatrice (until further revelation).

Just finished Tatarigoroshi. The resolution is wow... unexpected. I wish I could jam it in inside Satoko. She's pure love and willing to fight for K1.

Yes, the PS2 CGs that go with the original chapters (Onikakushi-Himatsubushi) will be added. This means psycho Rena and rape-face Mion.

Also, I seem to be having a problem with the original mangagamer images that are inside data02000.arc. After extracting them with arcextract, they are in tlg format, aren't they? Or is there something else I must do to make them editable? In return have delicious non-ham-handed Ryukishi art.

I'm talking about large segments of text that simply are not there. Anything involving the slice of life Shion dialogues is absent, and I think the cooking competition in chapter 2 is absent two. These scripts all have the lead in's to huge event, but do not actually have the events themselves.

I'd give you an example, but the site is down.

Also, Cudder, for ease of use, can you put an asterisk or something by files that have been looked at once already, so we don't have to click 40 buttons to find a starting point. Furthermore, might I suggest that we move files that have been, decided by, perhaps by a democratic method, deemed "finished". One of the concerns you expressed is that since multiple people will be looking at the same file, the editing direction could perhaps deviate from the original material, and editors fixing other editors fuck ups could make things convoluted pretty fast. There's no real direction at all, so I'd suggest that we move to finalize the files we're working on. Also, segmentation of files by chapter would be kind of nice, but it's a minor thing really. Once you get the remaining files extracted, god knows how big the list will be.

2. (In game, the cooking competition happens here.
3. (In game, post competition, there is a discussion with Rena and Mion as they walk home)
3. (In game, Sion will visit K1's house to give him a lunchbox since he skipped lunch at the competetion.)
4. (In game, K1 will watch TV, have a little internal monologue, then go to bed)
5. wata_004.txt picks up right here. It starts with the beginning of P.E. Class the next day, where Rika says she can't participate because she's sick.

The contents in between 1. and 5. Are completely and totally unaccounted for.

>> No.3975454

These scripts, as far as I can see, are lead ins to major events for the first part (only talking about Chapter 2, haven't looked into 1 yet). And all of the major events are totally omitted. Referring to the Tweaking Higurashi Page (Which is now severely outdated), remaining items on the "To Do List" are:

Port PS2 Voices: Some dude knows how to do this, but won't because of the extra effort it involves. At least not until either A) He's given up hope on the fan-made patch that's been in development for a while. (Or if it's release, not gonna happen) -or- B) There is news on that site confirming that they will not be completing the project.

Port PS2 Music: Someone needs to come up with a matching track list for the 36 tracks MG release uses. (Done or not?)

Port CGs: Work in Progress. Can the Anon working on this give us an update? Some errors may come up, and there are a few missing CGs that are unaccounted for.

Backport game to ONScripter: If we want to get a voice patch sooner than later, this needs to happen. But it probably won't.

Proofread and edit MG script: WIP as we speak. Still has no general statistics for progress

Port minigames, music box, staff room: Did people completely forget about this? I think most just gave it up.

Replace SFX with the originals (Not done):
First we need a list of matches beetwen the original and the lsysXY files MG release uses. Then it's just a matter to convert the originals to OGG, use BWCreate from BGItools to convert them and rename them so they match MG files. After that, copying them to the dir will suffice. An already organized sfx track list may be found inside the 0.txt script of the original game.

Also, does anyone have the two soundtracks uploaded? I know the ONScripter one is going to be easy to come by, but I have no clue where to find the PS2 ones. We should also probably upload the original sfx.

On top of that:
>At least not until either A) He's given up hope on the fan-made patch that's been in development for a while.
I don't see that happening. The Sonozaki twins translation nonsense is authorized by Ryu07 to conduct their translation, and when MG tried to get a C&D, they were, apparently, shut down by him. Furthermore, on the site, it's said "We'll hold any patches until next year, out of "professional courtesy"" suggesting that they could have potentially had a release this year, but canceled it. However, a betatester said he hasn't gotten anything, so they might just be full of shit. Really, who knows.

I assuming your talking about me with the CG patch, that's not quite true. I am essentially backporting the game to onscripter by making a patch for the original game using MG's translated script, editing as I insert lines. I will only be adding CGs and other PS2 things to my patch once it's done, and release different versions of it. I'm thinking:

Original - Only (necessary) translated graphics + script
PS2 Sprite - Original with PS2 sprites only - CGs optional
PS2 BG - Original with PS2 BGs only
PS2 Full GFX - Original with PS2 sprites and BGs - CGs optional
PS2 Complete - Original with PS2 sprites, BGs, and BGM - CGs optional

CGs optional means there'll be 2 nscript.dat files included, one named nscript.dat (without CGs) and one named addCGs.dat, which when renaming nscript.dat to something else and changing addCGs.dat to nscript.dat will, well, add the CGs.

Okay, this is fucking ridiculous.

I've been trying to make the sfx patch. I seem incapable of making an ogg that bwcreate will accept. I converted all the PC wavs to oggs in THE EXACT SAME WAY, and bwcreate accepts only three of them. The others return a "Could not find required information to convert this Ogg into a BGI Ogg" error.
I could've had this patch done last night if I didn't keep running into this error. Does anyone know what bwcreate is looking for in an ogg?
