Off the 1% chance you are not shitposting and for the people that are curious, Ogura Yui comes from an idol background. She was a fan of Morning Musume and participated in an Up-Front Group audition, failed said audition but was recommended to keep going at it and to look into a voice acting as well because she had a good voice.
Hence why she focuses on idol stuff.
She has barely any roles compared to her contemporaries. In both 2020 and 2021 she had 6 TV roles per year, most of them secondary characters with few lines. Constantly touring through Japan goes directly against recording voice work which requires her to be in Tokyo. Water is wet, grass is green, people die when they are killed.

If you have ever been to any Aoi cast annoucement you always get people that are not very familiar with Aoi's range shitposting which immediately stops the moment the trailers start dropping.
My favorite one has to be Kino no Tabi in which people got confused and though the voice in the trailer was the original VA and not Aoi.

Who does I'M have? Hayamin, Hikasa? Both of those are overworked and overused, so likely they will realize that they have veteran talent in Nakahara eventually and cast in a decent roles. I think they'll keep going with Hayami until she dies or leaves because she's pretty much their money maker. I don't think pushing Oonishi is gonna work well, since I've heard anyway she's not very good in Shikimori.

I think the only way they'd go back to their veterans, is if another big name left (like Maaya for example) or if the Saori push fails. But even then, I think they'd try with KugiRie first because she's got bigger star power than Nakahara.

What other franchises has she been in aside from Higurashi? I know Akagi got a new skin recently and she's gonna be important in Shadows House S2. Aside from those I can't think of anything. Unless we're subscribing to the theory she's gonna finally be appearing in Genshin when the Shangai lockdown ends (is it ever does)

She will need time in order to play a major role, something that she probably didn't have with the Higurashi remake and other commitments. A seiyuu agency is an investment of sorts, and I doubt they have invested in her this long just to let her out to pasture so to speak. Patience my brother, and she will surprise you.

I think another part of her lack of roles is just the type of character she is best at, and most known for. Those would be the straight up heroine roles, often with a touch of comedy, which she excels at. But she's never going to get those roles these days, because of her age.

When she was cast as Rena, it was a turning point for her, because it showed she could do something different, but it also typecast her for a bit, giving her a string of yandere/duality types to play as well, which also took her away from lead roles.

She is really good at playing the villain, because she's an all-around good actress, but there's always going to be someone more popular who's just as good or better at such characters, and certainly more known for them. Though I agree, she would be perfect for Makima if given the chance. But she almost definitely wont be given the chance.

And I personally don't think Nagisa cursed her. Regardless of how one might feel about her character, Clannad is one of the main series that cemented her into minds, because of how highly it's regarded, and well-loved it is. It will always stand out on her resume. But yeah, she does die a lot in roles. If we were to look on the bright side of that, maybe she's just good at getting people to care that her character died/is dead. Or maybe casting directors who like her are trying to throw her a bone, while not having to pay her higher rate for too long.
