Yeah I thought that might be the case with top grade materials too when trying to forage dark matter, but I just get days where I can harvest from waking to bed time with hecatica around and some days I get absolutely nothing for the whole day, or every forage attempt nets me exactly one dark matter. It's always one or the other, like you can wake up, go to sea of tranquility, try foraging once, and if you get nothing first attempt you know you'll get nothing the whole day, whereas if you get one ark matter you know you should spend the entire day foraging dark matter. Some rare occasions I even get lucky foraging alone, so I know it's not actually tied to doing it with another character or if it is, then it might increase your odds or something.

From my experience these two items only appear when I had the correct girl in the area. Even when I timestop the yields go back to the "high tier" materials where without it I get the top one always.
