I didn't mean to imply that just because the scenario was somewhat contrived it was necessarily bad. I do like how it plays out. Just that it has a specific storytelling purpose, and if Moriyama chooses to have Shirou and Rin ally so early yet keep her as the love interest then that would have severe repercussions on how their relationship develops. The UBW romance worked because the scenarios the two were put in forced them to realize how fucked up the other is and why. If the plot changes then so the dynamics of the romance to the point it's basically an entirely different relationship that has no real connection with the real deal beyond the most superficial elements. Dunno, we'll see.

I think Shirou using his CS was just supposed to show that even prior to the timelines diverging, Shirou already liked Rin in UBW more than he does in either Fate or HF. Similarly to how you can similarly argue Shirou liked Sakura in HF even during the common route than he did in Fate and UBW. The fact that Shirou gets suspicious when Rin says that he nearly died twice on Day 3, and asks her how she knew he nearly died at the hands of Lancer at the school when he doesn't notice that slip in either Fate and HF does point to aforementioned hypothesis being true.
