Honestly if you don't need to pass N3 for some weird reason I wouldn't look at what's in the jlpt.

Just do Tae Kim, Core2.3 and immerse in whatever you want to. If you don't understand something look it up and put it in a mining deck.
After a while you can take some random jlpt online tests to see where you are at.
Do the N2 whenever you are ready.
