Dropped White Album 2. I read IC, Chiaki, Koharu, Mari, and dropped it near the end of Setsuna's route in CC. So here are my thoughts based on that. I won't talk about everything but just the factors that led me to drop the game.

First of all, the heroines. There are two interesting heroines in the game: Setsuna and Chiaki. I'm not talking about the stupid waifu crap everyone argues about, or about likability. I liked all of them more or less, but those are the only two that are interesting, unique characters. The rest are basically just stereotypes and I could never really get invested in them. That includes Kazusa. Perhaps she has some unique struggle in Coda, but up to that point she was nothing more than a generic kuudere. So having seen the romantic struggles of an actually interesting character (Setsuna) be resolved, I don't feel any pressing reason to see that shaken up or destroyed by a stock character. It feels retarded to me and I don't have any desire to continue. I knew I was going to have a problem when she showed up outside the theater in CC and I didn't care.

Sometimes I'll read something by a writer and it will simply cause me to lose all respect for them and not want to read anything else that they've written. This was one of those things. I think it was the total disregard for how serious something like this is, like the actual danger of it, and how it's then all just brushed under the rug like it doesn't matter. It's cheap emotional manipulation for one. And I actually liked what he was trying to do with Tomo's character overall, this scene should have been different if he wanted it to not be a big deal ultimately. It simply feels insensitive to an extreme degree, such that it made me feel like I was getting duped by the rest of the game and all the hours I'd spent on it up to that point was a waste of time. Like the writer doesn't really have any particular insight on the emotional problems he's dealing with and is just fucking with me. When this scene happend I effectively dropped the game. I kept going a bit to see how Setsuna's situation would be resolved and then I was done.

So would I recommend this game to anyone? No. Or I would say to read IC and Chiaki's route (and her extra scenes in IC and Setsuna's route) and then drop it. Or read Damekoi instead, which isn't perfect either, but in exchange for its flaws you get something more enjoyable to read.

Finally done with Doukyuusei, it was pretty fun and a nice change of pace from the usual VNs we get translated. Sumeragi's art is beautiful as always. I wish they would remake the other old elf titles like Doukyuusei 2 or Kakyuusei.

Mika especially goes through many stages of her pursuit of happiness throughout the VN. of this pursuit during the visual novel. First she sings out of fear of death and wanting to immortalize herself through fame, then she sings because she wants to elevate Dr. Flower to stardom and make herself useful for Kei, then she sings for love, and finally she sings for her audience. Her character and singing changes each step of the way, and by the time we reach the end she's probably at her most happy and stable. Kei and her being married after all of that would be antithetical to her development as a character. In the end, Kaneda was right; Romantic relationships in a band never turn out well, and I think Kei and Mika putting their marriage on hold just shows how much they value one another in the end. It's still kinda rushed towards the end, though.

Do you guys play VNs on your phone/tablet? I've been using Steam Link these days to play Steam VNs on my tablet, and it's a comfy experience since I can just lay in bed or a sofa. Downside is, sometimes my internet acts up and the entire app lags out. I also tried Kirikidroid but the amount of VNs there is small.
