I've done some looking around for a momiji fumo, but all of them are very overpriced despite her supposedly being common as listed in the guide(s). I'm guessing I'll have to wait until they restock her on gift? When do they usually restock? I've done some reading and it seems they are busy with making other products. And if gift does restock, do you recommend using a forwarding service instead of a proxy? I've used a proxy (White Rabbit Express) to buy an anime/manga item in the past and while a bit expensive and time consuming, it seems simpler compared to what I've read about forwarding services. I'm just trying not to get scalped because these current prices (all over $150) seem a little obscene.

The guides are a bit too out of date, everything's rarer and more expensive now. The prices you see on the permament listings are even higher precisely because no one's buying them at those prices, if you want to catch a decent priced one you need to check the YJA search page once or twice per day and wait for one to show up, it will eventually.

Around the time reitaisai is on, twice a year. Do consider though that not all the fumos get restocked every time. Pic related is what we got last time in october, but next time momiji might not be there. I'd still recommend waiting for it while keeping an eye on YJA.

I've never tried forwarding services yet but the most recommended ones are Buyee, FromJapan and ZenMarket, all of which have their pros and cons which I can list if you need more details.

Thank you for the reply anon. In regards to getting a better deal, I thought that's what I would have to do. Anime/manga/otaku-related merchandise (especially plushies) has really gone up in price lately, it's a general trend I've noticed. I'm a big fan of Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san, and managed to get a Senko plush about a year or so ago, back then it was $50. Nowadays, I went to look around to see how much people are selling them now just for the heck of it, and none are under $110. Not as bad as fumos, but still. Even Pokemon cards as an example had a massive explosion in people looking to collect them over the pandemic, which led to stupid expensive prices to grow. I'll have to keep an eye on YJA then, and on gift's website. Yeah I think $100-$150 is a decent range, especially if it's for your favorite 2hu, at least if that's the cheapest you can get. I know we're coming out of a global pandemic (and all the supply interruptions that came with it) but you'd think they'd just increase supply, seeing how fast the fumos go out of stock. They must know how popular they are. Again thanks for the advice. I will continue to look for my soft, fluffy maple friend.

Fumos are pretty high quality and use different fabrics so the massive price difference comes mostly from that, i think you could argue that this is also the reason for the slower restocks.
But I do think Gift is slowly starting to realise how popular (compared to the past) fumos are getting, we had probably like 4 or 5 restocks the last year.
Fumos used to be some nice souvenir you got from visiting Reitaisai with only the few of us who acquired the arcane knowledge of how to use proxies getting them but it obvously got bigger with people sharing photos and videos

True, quality does play a difference, and the fact that Pokemon likely has a lot more money to produce their stuff in the first place. The first time I used a proxy service to buy something from Japan it did indeed feel like hidden knowledge, like it was hiding underneath my nose the whole time. At the end of the day, for people with a little extra spending money, $40-$60 once in a blue moon (after shipping, etc) isn't gonna break the bank either, but as everyone can see the scalping has gotten out of hand. It's kind of funny, like a series of cursed tree rings of prices increases as it gets easier for westerners to purchase, with gift being cheapest, all the way to ebay fumos being $200+ easily. Social media has definitely affected fumos and other hobby items in their popularity and thus their price. Checking for half a year is insane but at this point makes sense given the supply issues and the popularity of that particular Pokemon. I'm glad you got yours, anon. I'm going to keep looking for a momiji fumo, she's my favorite 2hu. I've got my eyes on one right now on JPAuctions through Buyee, but the price is a little much. Maybe if it came down some. I'll just keep waiting and maybe I'll get lucky and gift will restock her. Then I'll have to get even luckier and get her before she sells out.

She shipped on the 29th! Can't wait! On another hand, if a bit off topic, how do I get better at the games? I am playing MoF on normal but suck so bad. I cannot make it past stage 4 (I can beat Momiji but don't last much longer after her), and even struggle getting past stage 2. My reaction time is terrible. I've tried learning to stream, but I'm definitely doing it wrong. My short term goal is to make to level 5, mid term to beat the game with continues, and long term to get my first 1cc. Feel free to visit the gameplay thread for more questions, but here's some tips.
When streaming, only move the barely necessary amount to dodge the bullets directed at you. With small steps you'll have lots of time before you get to the other end of the screen, and when you're getting close look for an opening in the bullets so you can pass through and start streaming the other way.
Everyone sucks at these games at first, it's normal. The important thing is to have fun and to feel like you're improving every day. If you're not you should try switching to another game for a while and come back to MoF later with more experience in hand.
Learn to use bombs, trying to avoid using them is fine while you're playing around and practicing, but once you know the most dangerous spots in the game and you're doing a serious run for the 1cc you should bomb every time you're in danger to save your lives. Consider that if even just 1 out of 3 bombs used would have saved you a life that's like doubling your amount of lives.
I recommend giving LLS and EoSD a try, the lack of hitbox is actually good for learning to get a feeling for where it is without actually looking at it, which even in games with a visible hitbox will help you because it means you can look at the bullets instead. (It also helps a lot for playing unfocused to farm cherry points on PCB)

So I've been following my tracking. The package shipped out on the 29th, left Japan on the 30th and arrived at customs in the U.S. on the 31st. I know it's only been a couple of days, but after checking what customs facility it arrived I am worried. It's ISC Chicago, which is apparently notorious for delaying packages for shipment for ungodly amounts of time (on average more than 15 days, some as long as a year) and when it reaches customs there is no update in tracking until the package magically arrives at your doorstep. They also have a bad habit of "losing" mail and packages there. I wonder if theft is a problem. I know customs takes time and it's only been a couple of days. I'll see by midweek what happens. So, I found this custom Tsukasa fumo on AliExpress, and I really like the look of it. Tsukasa is definitely one of my favorite 2hus, and I am wondering if I should purchase her. The fact that it is so cheap and is from China seems a little sketchy, but the reviews for the seller seem to be legit. Do any of you think it will be decent quality? The pictures look good but China isn't really known for quality. I don't think gift will make a Tsukasa fumo for the foreseeable future because of how relatively recent she is as a character, and something tells me even if they did she'd be sold out before I'd have a chance to preorder her. Shipping costs nearly as much as the fumo. I'm having second thoughts.

In the last Amiami batch they quoted me an insane 9000 yen for 4 fumos shipping, then refunded IIRC 4000 after shipping. It's possible Amiami is over-quoting us on the shipping for the dekas too. They quoted me at 34,000 yen shipping each, but using a DHL shipping calculator is saying the cost should be around 25,000.

I'll cough up for Sakuya and see if they refund me again, if they do I'll pull the trigger on Remilia and let you all know. Otherwise I'm just going to cancel her, because as much as I love softs 160,000 yen for 2 fumos is a bit much.

Import taxes depend on your country's custom laws. The problem with DHL and FedEx compared to less known ones is that customs will open them much more often cause they're usually used for valuable stuff, so you're much more likely to get hit with the tax.

That shipping price seems about right since DHL shipping is good for small but heavy packages but very expensive for big packages, especially if they're also light then DHL is never worth it over EMS. I don't know what shipping calculator you're using but keep in mind that both weight and size can determine the shipping price.

Nothing basically. I'm glad AmiAmi at least gives you the option to cancel without repercussions due to the shipping restriction so you're not forced to pay way higher shipping costs. Though depending on how aftermarket prices go when EMS ever comes back you might still have to pay a similar price due to the deka fumo going up in price.
