It has been described some details, but still vague enough for authors to have a lot of liberty in making their own interpretations, it's said the mansion has few windows to prevent light from getting in, scarlet-colored windows, a looot of rooms and hallways, some rooms don't have windows at all and thus gloomy, there are probably staircases too and it's said the mansion is phenomenally larger inside than it appears from the outside

In this version of Gensokyo, wouldn't it be in the best interests of literally everyone connected to humanity or the SDM to acquire a dose of that sweet sweet hourai elixir and offer some random prime-beef human in peak physical condition the chance to live in luxury in the SDM, in exchange for being their food?
Sure, it would be a task and a half (a good topic for a story, actually) to make that random human the fifth confirmed being ever to use the elixir, but it would be infinitely kinder, easier, and all around better than actually killing people. It's not like the human would actually have to feel the pain of death every time, either, thanks to Sakuya.
Once you get past the hurdle of actually getting your hands on it, it's indisputably good.

Well I guess as long as humans are required there's not much difference whether it's humans' belief or youkai's sense of purpose.
Fairies, hell and such aren't required to interact with humans because there are more established things like seasons and religions to keep humans from completely forgetting about them, but that's just how I see it.
