You know, Rinnosuke is never stated to be actually weak in terms of normal humans.

Have you ever wondered why humans don't just barge in and steal all his magical goods, protection gear and weaponry? The ones who CAN walk all over him (Reimu, Marisa, various full youkai) are the only ones that can actually kill him easily.

He's ostracised by humans because he won't give them anything to protect themselves with unless they pay ridiculously expensive amounts, and they all hate him for it.

It's why he doesn't begrudge the contact of Reimu and Marisa, no matter how small it is. His youkai side can't stop gathering items, and he's trapped in his shop for fear of leaving his wards.

Truly a worrying tale.

You don't have to have an affinity for magic to be powerful e.g.: Marisa. You just have to put in a lot of effort.

Rinnosuke worked in the human village for the Kirisame family. He wasn't ostracized, he chose to open a shop between the human village and the forest of magic to attract both human and youkai cuntomers. (but he failed).

You know? Humans also gather stuff, and Marisa is probably an even more fanatic collector than Rinnosuke.
