Hi /jp/.

In about 5 hours I will be boarding a plane and heading to stay with my parents for Christmas. Sadly I can't take my computer with me, and so I will have to exist only with my laptop, a small netbook running Ubuntu Linux.

I don't want to be without VNs for 3 weeks! But getting VN to work with AGTH and ATLAS is hard enough using Windows XP, I'm not sure that it will be possible using Linux, through WINE, assumably.

Do any /jp/ers have experience on this topic?

sudo aptitude install a-real-os

Maybe you should stick to Solitaire.

That's your punishment for using a shitty OS.

Tried Linux once just for the hell of it. I don't know where people get it's more "user friendly", I couldn't do shit.

The more popular VNs are listed on the AppDB. Most of them work alright. Personally, I've run Saya, Wanko, and YMK with no problems.

I can't help you with AGTH and ATLAS, though. I don't bother with moonspeak and machine translations.

VNs run well with wine. There's a text hooker created by the same dude who wrote vnds. Don't know how well it works because I don't bother with that sort of thing.

Depends on the individual VN. Look it up on http://appdb.winehq.org

I can add Suika, FSN as well as Shuffle to the definitely working VNs list

I remember having had troubles with YMK though, but maybe I just forgot a few registry keys when copying it from the windows machine.

saging because it seems I should

Actual help here:

I've played FSN and some Touhou using WINE. Not sure how reliable a netbook's gonna be, never tried it on them. I play more oldschool emulatable-stuff though. Give it a try.

I was actually in the middle of copying (mangagamer's) Higurashi to my Linux running notebook. It works without any troubles.

it is actually really bad since it makes lots of non-vn things crash.
I still use it at times when I cant just extract the script. (I recommend unpatching when done)

I should edit the page a bit to point this out/update the patch.
