PS2 sprites and backgrounds patch for Higurashi PC v1.1 :

Just paste data02000.arc into your Higurashi folder. Don't forget to do a backup of the original data02000.arc beforehand.
The patch will replace all of the character sprites and approximatively 80% of the backgrounds.

This updated version corrects all of the problems signaled in http://archive.easymodo.net/cgi-board.pl/jp/thread/S3931514, plus some other ones. I rechecked every picture one by one, there shouldn't be any complaints anymore. The only "flaws" remaining are the original, photo-like backgrounds that I left as they were, because the PS2 game lacked equivalents for those. I can't do anything about that.

Yes, you shouldn't need it at all. I talked about it in an earlier thread :

Well, sometimes they have different translators working on the same thing, so you'll notice inconsistencies. This was really obvious in some of their earlier releases, like Edelweiss, where some translators were obviously more competent than others.

I've been playing Higurashi Matsuri for a while and these are the results:

PS2 OST:
1- Ansoku no Jikan (breakfast)

(ansoku no jikan again when they arrive at the school)

I've seen it translated to "When the cicadas cry" before, but a higurashi refers to a specific type of cicada. If they were to simply replace it like that, it would be like replacing "tarantula" with "spider" or something. Super beta ps2 OST patch done. It replaces the first 6 songs of the soundtrack for the ps2 ones. There were some instances of songs of the original doujin OST (the patched one, not the MG version) which didn't have an equivalent in the ps2 soundtrack, so I left them there. Only one song of the ps2 OST has been removed so far, because is absolutely impossible to replace it without fucking up everything. Too bad because TRICK OR TREAT is a fun song.

The ps2 OST patch is stalled until I can solve this problem. The game freezes at a small cutscene with Rena so I can't keep doing this till I find a solution. I'm not using any speedhacks in the emulator so I don't know what should I do to avoid it.

Did a little bit of work on the script by myself after Cudder pointed me in the right direction. I think I know enough to do the script cleanup (as long as it doesn't involve modifying transitions or anything), but modifying the pointers by hand would take infinitely more time than actually editing the text. Awww, fuck. I went to the scene you mentioned and I got the same error window. This only occurs for the monochrome BGs (black and white, or, in this case, red and white). That's because when I saved them under paint.net, I left "color depth" on automatic selection, and it chose 8 bits instead of 24 bits (since the pictures were monochrome).

Starting from now it will be more annoying because Higurashi Matsuri is not a kinetic novel like the original, meaning that I'll have to be careful with the choices.
