I've just always been concerned about having any odd number of children over 3 and not enough adult figures in the family that each of them could create a special bonds with. I'd be worried about having a 5th wheel in the family; and having an odd one left out.

So maybe 4 would be better. Though I don't exactly know much about parenting large families and how that works out for most people, I'd just be concerned that I wouldn't be able to spend enough time with all of them and get worried that any of them might feel less loved than their siblings. I think it just started as a trend that artists came up with and it just happened to stick. Maybe both the artists and fans happened to silently agree that the theme just worked best in conjunction with her usual personality and traits and eventually it just became the norm.
