Good games as usual, Saje. I've gotta admit, it confused the fuck out of me when I was facing the right way for my 5A, but then when I did my 6A, Alice turned the other direction and whiffed it. I mean, how does that even happen? Also, I noticed that we're both still really bad at doing 2B -> j9 -> j.2B -> 3D -> j.5A with Tenshi.

Your Marisa aircombos are annoying, because you always seem to land them whenever we do an air-to-air exchange! It's almost enough to make a guy want to stop jumping, ya know?

GGs, Guy. So many wtf moment during those games. Somehow, I activated Scarlet Weather Rhapsody when I only had 3 cards? Guess I got the fourth without realizing it, we were in the -1 card cost weather, and I thought I had the dragon punch card selected. Definitely wasn't my intent there. The time I autoblocked 9 attacks with a single Iku 623B to STILL lose out on the exchange? Makes you wonder what the point of it is, heh. I swear to God, one of these days my Marisa will properly land a Final Spark. Think I went a little teleport happy with Komachi there for a match. Was just having so much fun recornering you without doing anything. T'was fun as always, Guy.

This would be so much easier if the game allowed turning around in air faster. 5B and 6A whiffed so often because you were too near or slightly under me or something.

Patchouli sure has some unfair spellcards. Royal Flare in typhoon? Hell, I couldn't graze through this spellcard even if my spirit orbs were full.

But really, do you do a single move which isn't either a fireball, 5A or a preparation for a fireball? Jumping and shooting down a fireball is one thing, but jumping and shooting down fireballs until your bar is depleted is...

It was fun, I won't ever make a deck with Patchy where even one of the fireball skillcards are missing. If you excuse me, I'll go and try to become a better opponent. Those Royal Flares are still great pressure materials unused...

Or when I j8A while you do 236BC. Fireball counterhits are not fun.
My j2A inputs still won't work, but in the 2-3 cased it did, it worked wonders. It's like "if I don't even expect it myself, how can my opponent expect that move".
For fighting you, Iku's scarf and Disorder Eye are nearly useless. They're for more melee based characters, so the scarfs were used for the potions.

This game has only so many moves, and since I can't safely input 421 and 623 anyway, there isn't much left. Nearly everything starts with a 5B hit, since that's the sagest method I know.

>> No.3941715

>Patchouli sure has some unfair spellcards. Royal Flare in typhoon? Hell, I couldn't graze through this spellcard even if my spirit orbs were full.

If typhoon is up and patchouli has flare ready, do not fucking fly. Stay on the ground no matter what. That way you can just graze it forward for a tiny amount of spirit.

If you try to fly through it, you will die fast.

Fireball is one of Patchy's best moves. You can't fault a guy for exploiting the shit out of it

Remember, try to engage Patchy in an air game. Her 5C bullets can be penetrated without too much trouble, so as long as you have a fairly quick aerial bullet that you can dash cancel out of, you can punch through her danmaku without too much trouble. Just don't approach her from a directly horizontal angle (relative to Patchy, that is), otherwise her 6C'll getcha

That's why I'm using j.4B or 6A if I'm approaching from the air within close range. Otherwise 6C is a safe and fast move from far away, in corners j.2A, j.2C, j.236B/C does wonders against the opponent. They don't usually expect 3 hits in a row and the damage is also outrageous if the fireball is at MAX LEVEL. Hell, the damage is also unbearably high if the opponent blocks it

It is not that difficult to get around Patchy's 5C. Seriously, even most character's 5B will get some danmaku through the fireballs, and they most slow enough to where you can easily dash cancel out and graze the fireballs, depending on your character. I speak from the perspective of Alice and Remilia here. I dunno who you're using, but I find it easily doable with those characters

Fack, another asskicking.

Man, this is my 4th time going online, all against 'shit tier/scrub tier' etc, and I always get my ass kicked. I know I need practice to improve, and the cpu's can only get me so far, but man, it's hard to find people of my skill level to play. I play tons of fighting games so I naturally want to play this, but getting beatdown over and over again is so discouraging.

Also, my stick setup seems awkward, how do most of you guys do it? I have it as ABC all in a row, D under A, and then switch/use cards as the far right buttons. I think I might switch to a controller for this one.

Also, I noticed you didn't use much other than spellcards, is that recommended?

And finally I want to main Sakuya, any tips on her from what you saw? I like China too, but she seems gimp with the lack of projectiles. Anyone feel free to answer, I would like to learn.

I use the keyboard, since I don't really have a good controller.

Use whatever you want to use - skillcards activate the skill now so they can be as good as or better than spellcards at times. As for sakuya, yeah, her spellcards are generally pretty good.

learn how to use the knives bouncing off the walls to catch your opponent off guard, then learn how to take advantage of every knife that hits. That, and figure out your teleports, then you can have knives bouncing from both sides while you go into a block string in the middle.

Use your spellcards wisely - I'm pretty sure dashing B combos into most of her spellcards pretty well.

Her 66C is among the best in the game, her melee range, while not being iku-ish, is still pretty good, her C projectiles are dense as fuck and pretty damn quick, her B covers a wide area, 2b sinking her into the ground is very useful, she can laser you pretty much everywhere, etc.

Her default 236 looks kinda lacking, but it's mostly to be used in combos I believe. I myself use her laser square alt for that ever so wacky 236B hj9 j.2a j.412B combo, but it's a matter of preference. Her spellcards are also all very strong, allowing her to chain pressure with ran and chen on blocked specials, and with her 623C combined, actually adds up to a lot of chip damage and continuous pressure.

She's a bag of tricks, you gotta know how to use them or else they'll all seem useless.

Yeah, see, when you jump, you're vulnerable for a split second. and in the air, you can't block ground attacks period. So if you jump just as you get up, any melee hit that has some sort of vertical range will slap you. Tenshi is especially good at this, you no doubt noticed her 66C, 3A and 2B all caught you again and again when you kept trying to jump.

You're actually not bad at all, but you have a few very crippling bad habits that you need to break, this being one of them. I'd start with that: Unless it's absolutely obvious you have plenty of time to get away, you should block when you get up and the other guy is near you.

Or, since you're playing Marisa, use her 623B. It has invincibility, so it'll beat any melee they do to catch you. After a few hits, they should get hesitant to try to hit you on wakeup.

Also, since you're using her 214 alt broomshot, I think you can use that after a blocked ass (6A) to prevent punishment on block.

Marisa is a rushdown character. You want to get them in the corner and apply relentless pressure. Her bullets might not cover much, but once you have them blocking your melee/bullets, don't let go. Of course that doesn't mean you should be reckless, but certainly aggressive.

Gotcha. I thought that jumping while blocking was a guaranteed block. I think someone called that chickenblocking, but I guess I misunderstood.

And yeah, a lot of how I played was from me trying not into rush into combo after combo like I used to, but I think that translated to me being a little too defensive. I need to work on keeping the pressure on, and I should probably try to learn blockstrings for when I actually do get someone cornered.

GGs. Don't worry, I'm used to playing against people who use only a few characters.
As you might have noticed, Youmu is my main, with Meirin and Cirno as close seconds.
I need to learn to be more careful, I ended up rushing a bit too often, usually resulting in you kicking my ass.
Also, I was a bit surprised I actually won with Suwako. That's my first time since the first days of 12.3.

I pretty much agree, and I use laser squares alt too. But still she could use some different looking projectiles and more alts that don't suck. That eye skill and spellcard look so awesome, but they are useless. 214B open too slow and is too small to be of significant use (I use it only vs Patchy's fireballs and Sakuya's dagger spam) and 236B/C fixed distance make it rather bad. If only 236C always opened above the enemy it would be great. Other than that she could really use 22B/C skill.

>> No.3943052

>>3943019
Chickenblocking is when you block stuff in the air. since air to air blocking pushes you upwards, it makes it easy to escape pressure. For example, if you throw a 5c my way and I block it on the ground, I stay in place and I'm still fucked. If I jump and then block it, it'll bounce me upwards and it'll be a lot harder for you to keep hitting me. But like I said, if you jump JUST as the thing is about to hit you, you'll get hit.

Some ground melee attacks can be blocked in the air (Alice db for example), some can't (komachi 5a, okuu 3a, etc...). In any case, there is a period of time where you cannot block anything just as you jump. If you use a high jump, this lasts pretty much until the apex of the jump + any hit counts as a counterhit.

Great games as always, Duckator. Sorry to cut it a little short this time, but I'm getting awfully hungry. I was making an effort to demonstrate that I knew what blocking was, but I can't help but feel as though I'm still failing given the fact that I still fall for DPs and stuff like Aya's 66C all the time. You were a really great opponent to work with, though, since you really knew how to catch me messing up; I feel like if I face you, I may have some semblance of a defense in a little while.

Our Cirno/Reimu match was a bit of a mistake, I thought the 5C would hit so I activated the sword spellcard, but you completely stuffed me. Our Meiling/Sakuya was incredibly close as well, I'm really happy that I managed to go without using the Sky Dragon Kick (those were some horrible card draws, hahaha). I wanted to see if I could melee you right after Perfect Maid ends, but I kept underestimating the duration. Your Sakuya truly shines compared to mine.

>>And Yukari conversation in general
For bullets, Yukari's projectiles get the job done. She has almost no lines of vulnerability where coverage is lacking.
Yukari's spells are arguably the best in the game due to the way they operate with her normal moves to produce a style of play that no other characters can really attempt. In terms of safety/power/efficiency/guarantees/versatility Yukari's spells are unmatched.
The default 214 is awful. The default 236 is actually quite powerful, but is the most difficult part of Yukari to master. Unfortunately all of her alternates are weak to bad, but that makes it easy to use more awesome spells. Thankfully she comes competitive with her defaults.
Yukari really only has two major weaknesses that set her back, her aerial melee/comboability is bottom of the barrel, in a game where the top tier is dominated by meaty aerial melees and air combo power. Weak aerial power contributes but isn't the sole cause of her second weakness which is low damage conversion. Wise use of safe chip damage is necessary to make up for low combo damage.
I find it easy to compete with Yukari against the toppest of the tourneyfags.
In SWR there was one nearly hopeless matchup (Alice) but in Soku she is functional in every matchup, even if some are still uncomfortable situations.

My first day back, and it just had to be some hard fought battles against you! But some damn fun matches on top of that. Feels good, man!

Greatest loli-genius moment, or GREATEST loli-genius moment!

I wish I was joking when I say that just fighting this AI makes me think of dropping Alice and picking up Iku. What's that? I can have all the range and power of Alice, but without having to set up five hundred fucking dolls perfectly and hope the enemy doesn't decide to graze or get in my deadzone?

Jesus fucking christ, if players online are as good as this, I might as well just drop Alice now ::/

The Iku AI is not that hard to beat, at least with the characters that can crush with projectiles.
Too bad Alice is not one of them.

Don't expect them to play like a real player in terms of blocking and grazing though.
They will get you rid of your mashing like no human player.

Good games.
I didn't think this post went through since I posted it right when boards went down.
After playing with you I realized how weak my Youmu is. I think I'll train her some more before using her again.

God dammit, the Iku AI is inhumanly defensive. High/Low guard mixup, crossups and wakeup dragonpunches do not work. Coupled with her uncanny ability to combo from any situation makes for some rageworthy matches. Alas, there is a gap in her AI where she doesn't watch Youmu's myon and falls too easily to 2C. Still, I can't abuse that enough to beat her.

No matter how you put it, this is a bad AI.

All it does is read your inputs (aka cheating) and select the "best" move programmed into it. If you press B or C, it dashes even if it isn't anywhere near the bullet.
It can't act, only react. It stays in the corner and takes bullet chip damage forever, because someone forgot to tell it what to do.
The way to beat it is to exploit the faults in the program and attack it when it's shooting some bullets in air or a lighting across the screen for no reason, or chip damage it to 1 health.

It's still much better than normal Soku AI. But yeah, this auto-dashing thing is annoying.

Nah, SWRs AI is a step below that even. I mean, they don't even know how to use their spellcards. If they happen to be on a super, they will randomly fire it off at some point. If it's a system or skill card they will do nothing with it the entire match. At least the AIs in other fighting games use their full moves list against you.

You're supposed to change the cards according to the text files they come with. And half of those ai are for swr only, not soku.

Yeah SWR AI suck. Maybe they will fix it someday.

At least story mode is good.

Tasofro Lunatic sucks like Easy Mode.
They may be able to pull of some good combos in melee, but they can't graze properly. You can simply shoot them down over and over again.

The AI in this game is way easier to beat than other games.
Lunatic is like level 5 of snk games or normal of capcom.

>> No.3954048

>>3954027
True. They really need to improve it.

But to be fair it's much harder to make good SWR AI than say SF or GG AI because of the card system and weather.
