I began the game on GM2 on Windows 10 2+ years ago, had a fight with the "artist", and abandoned the game.
Later switched to Linux, GM2 beta it's really advanced for such a short time, I was able to clone the git repo of my old fangame without problem; when I did login back on itchio I connected my PayPal account and I got paid $35 bucks between downloads and donations.
Yesterday night I was able to build the game on Linux for Win and Linux.

Objectively, the fandom is "dead". It's unique in the sense that it will literally always be relevant to otaku culture until the end of time, but the same can be said of things like Di Gi Charat and Chobits. It honestly blows me away how many people seem to be celebrating this. You can't even buy the early touhou games, so what's the point in removing them? A lot of fangames are from dead circles or circles that erased their presence from the Internet, and now we might see them show up again to get the last vestiges removed too.

Even back then there were artists who were quick to freak out over learning their content were scanned. For everyone who's fine with any and all exposure so as long as someone buys at least one copy, there's a handful who just want money and see any exposure as theft
