Personally I ignore bad ends because they don't feel like consistent characterization and feel forced because the author has to write towards some horrible end in mind rather than thinking about the story and characters at large. This is how I feel about bad ends in general not just FSN for the record.

While I would agree with your sentiment for some other VNs, in the case of FSN (and Tsukihime) I think the actions of characters in bad ends are pretty consistant with their "canon" attitude. I think that's why they are interesting to read, because they show how far some characters would go (or wouldn't go) in different circonstances. And it's not like there's no edgy stuff in the main path.
If anything the inconsistant characterization would be the too-dumb-to-live decisions you can make the protagonists take.

Saying "there was a not insignificant faction of people who thought the new designs suck but their influence was still outsized as they were more vocal than people who liked them" is fairly reasonable I think. People's views soften with time and the those who hated the changes the most become less rabid as time goes on. As someone who really like the UBW 2014 adaptation, I can definitely say assessments of it are more even-handed nowadays then back in 2015.

OG Arcueid is far better than nu-Arcueid but I think nu-Akiha looks considerably better than the OG FWIW.

I concur. The redesign really gives her this majesty - she just exudes feminine elegance. It contrasts wonderfully with when she goes full tsun. I think Takeuchi did a better job portraying the "ideal" facade behind which the true soft character hides with Rin than OG Akiha so I really like the redesign. As much as I would doompost if Nasu were to announce an FSN remake, I have faith the character designs will be mostly great.

I got introduced to Type-Moon through the UBW anime and one of the highlights for me was Shirou. I walked into the anime expecting Shirou to just be a generic shounen protagonist so I was blown away on that front; wouldn't have bothered with FSN (or Tsukihime) if I didn't find him (and Rin as well) to be such a nuanced excellent character. I was baffled by both anime-onlies shitting on him and primaries blaming the adaptation rather than the audience to say the least, especially since Shirou was hugely beloved in Japan, being consistently Number 2 on Newtype popularity polls. I guess you can argue the Nips didn't "get" him either and just like their generic protagonists.

As a massive Rinfag who's extremely fond of her relationship with Shirou (in all routes but especially UBW) think it would've been pretty good if DEEN had actually bothered doing her romance and overall character a justice. People say it almost entirely removes the romance but that's not exactly true - you can really see a shift after Your distortion where all the romantic scenes (even the motherfucking confession) prior to it are gone but most of the ones after (even something relatively minor like Rin's comment about liking Shirou's naivete) are present. It's obvious they went in with the mindset that the romance is irrelevant to the story but changed their minds once they actually reached that pivotal moment. An hour or a half of runtime more would've also gone a long way.

Melty Blood era Takeuchi was the best. Biggest issue with nu-Takeuchi is that Ufotable does his style better than him. A similar thing applied to early Takeuchi and DEEN but I think he had a soul to him back then that DEEN couldn't fully capture.

I liked HF2 after accepting the fact that it wouldn't cover HF in the way I wanted to with not a lot of Illya scene's in HF1. It's a solid movie divorced from its source material. HF1 is fine, if a bit dull with how slow it's pacing is while HF3 is a mess all around due to the payoff for the important scenes not hitting due to the lack of build up to them like Illya's last scene and Kirei's fight. I have hope for Mahoyo once the staff is announced and a better director is announced to work on the movie. Hopefully it has 3 movies to give it as much time as possible.

The most subtle, specific example to prove this was the reveal of Ciel True Ending Red Arcueid. Despite people's attempts to defend Arcueid's base design in Remake, the reveal of that design made many's true opinions on base Remake Arcueid slip through the cracks. Similar thing happened with Red Arcueid's reveal in Type Lumina. It showed without a doubt which design people actually preferred, but weren't saying due to keeping up appearances and a need to defend Remake entirely from critics.

When something is well-received and seen as "good" then people will go out of their way to defend the entirety of it's whole, especially to fit in with current perceptions of their contemporaries. Remake is a good game, thus people will defend it in it's entirely. A common phenomenon.

1. The designs did not change at all since their first unveiling. There's little in Remake that would change anyone's perceptions on the designs, one way or another.
2. The hate existed because other Type Moon works still used the original designs that outshined them. Melty Blood still existed and it was always a bad look for Remake when you saw how much better most MB characters looked
3. You can like a game and still dislike the aesthetics. Character designs, especially those that are static images and don't animate that often, aren't going to convince you that much in the limited motion of visual novels. What you see is what you are getting. It's not like 2D animated sprites or 3D animation where even a bad design can be elevated by animated movements.
4. You using the phrase "get used to" speaks volumes, and in my view undermines your entire response to me. More accurately, people are okay with the new designs moreso because people have come to terms that we are stuck with them and have to make due, is what that really means. They were not accepted immediately as something of an definite improvement, as they obviously weren't and years of discourse shows this, but the reality that "this is what they are now" and people knowing to move on. That doesn't speak favorably to the designs themselves at all.
