There's effectively no contact between the outside world and Gensokyo (barring a few unfortunate outsiders - all buried at Muendzuka, and Yukari's occasional trips).
A technological revolution could encourage trade, but I doubt Reimu and Yukari would allow something like that to risk the stability of the region.
Yukari must hate the Moriyas, don't you think?

The Tengu have no clue what's going on.
And Kappa technology is nonsensical at best. It'd never work in the real world.

If they can use the power they get from the nuke scheme to generate faith, they might be able to breach the barrier again.

Hence my use of the term "magical artifacts", besides if Kappa and Tengu revolution goes well enough Yukari's powers may not be needed to breach the border.

After all, there are a great deal more Kappa and Tengu than all the named Youkai (and humans) combined.

Tourism would be the big problem. And someone would realize that they can make enormous amounts of money by granting people access to the border from the outside. Not to mention all the other ways of making money from a genuine fantasy world. If the insiders put a stop to it, the economic inertia would lead directly to war. There's no way that open contact doesn't turn into a bad end.

There's almost no reason for Kappa and Tengu to bother trading with the outside world.

They already freeload off the stuff that falls through the border.

They're the most technologically advanced society in Gensokyo that has been introduced.

No one gives a shit that the humans are living in the feudal ages. Not even the humans.

Money is like, whatever, man.

Everything is peaceful as shit.

Outside humans are assholes. They're the reason youkai needed Gensokyo in the first place.

Considering the 'gates' is likely the Hakurei Shrine, it's pretty narrow.
Even a third world power could hold something as small as that, either a couple of heavy machingun emplacements (danmaku firing for nonleathality?) or even a magical barrier/giant plank (onabashira?) in the way would stop it.
Most countries aren't bounded by a magical force-field.

It's not like it'll be difficult to avoid. If Yukari really does go to the outside world, it won't take much for her to realize, "OH SHIT I had better do something about this!"
