So before someone asks, I now have every fumo bootleg they have available on Amazon and Ebay. Reporting the following:

1) With one exception, they are 80% the real thing. I will refer to them as 80% fumo. You can't tell they are fake except from up close and feeling the material. I highly suspect the current glut that appeared on the market are actually QAQC failures that were originally rejected by Gift. The material is almost the same but ever so slightly off. There may be minor QAQC issues with threading, stitching and gluing. For the most part, they are essentially the real deal. Are they worth ~$30? Hell yes, or you wouldn't be in this thread.

2) They are shipped directly from Chinkland. They will come wrapped in chink newspaper that probably contains lead , heavy pesticides and communism. You will be offended how haphazardly the bugmen have shipped your poor 80% fumo. Ordering from Amazon and you will get a shipping label. Which will be of little to no help since it is a chink shipping company. I got packages anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months. Ebay from the large sellers with hundreds of ratings was much much better. It was surprisingly that I actually got all my packages eventually. Two packages actually did not make it because they got looted off the trains in Los Angeles if you have been paying attention to that shitshow. It is a thing. Most shockingly, the chinese seller actually responded and shipped replacements which eventually made it through. This was from Amazon so they were held somewhat to account as a merchant, no idea if I would have got the same courtesy through Ebay. Ebay sellers had to give a legit shipping label that was trackable since PayPal was involved.

3) For the price, you are getting a relatively good deal which will not last, assuming either the stockpile runs out or the manufacturer ends the illegal merchandise run. That said, if you own the legit fumo, yours is now fully depreciated. Sorry. That also means nobody should ever dare try to buy a "New" fumo of the available bootlegs (Reimu, Marisa, Alice, Youmu, Yuyuko, Koishi, Satori, Tewi, Tenshi, Aya, Cirno, Sanae). The supply of 80% Koishi, Alice, Tenshi, Satori and Youmu is going FAST. You are also seeing a ton of "New" fumo of these models being resold as the legit thing by scalpers, do not be fooled. The labels, buttons and packaging can all be legit, the 80% fumo inside is not.

4) The Sanae 80% is trash. Do not buy. Only on Ebay right now. I don't own the legit version so I can't compare but the other 80%ers are great facsimiles, this one is most definitely NOT. Avoid.

5) Will other 80% fumo of the character you like come out? Who the hell knows.

As I said, they are obvious QA/QC failures from the real production line for Gift (these are the obvious deformed ones). But also batch rejects from chinks trying to substitute cheaper materials to save a buck that got caught. You want the latter and not the former. But it seems to be a gamble as to which you are going to get. I bought the first batch when they first became available to use as target practice but was shocked at how high quality they were. Later purchases were hit and miss. The only one that was 100% consistent crap was Sanae which is why I mentioned that one specifically. Aya was also a double miss before getting something that looked remotely fumo.

I got Reimu, Marisa, and Yuyuko from here. There's minor minor qc issues but these friends are still lovable. Marisa came out the nicest. Yuyuko has a loose thread on her mouth but I pretend it's just drool. The outline on Reimu's eyes has a rough bit and she's not really good at sitting, although apparently the latter issue is normal. No special pins, I'm afraid. Some of the stuffing/Darkness is a bit evident through the skin but it's in covered areas anyway. Their skin tones are also all different for some reason. But these issues I'm noting are all extremely minor imo, and folks with boots and regulars said the differences are minor.

Gift's still in the OP because they're the manufacturers, but they haven't had a sale for quite some time. If you want any character for retail then you're gonna have to wait for the next AmiAmi sale, which are usually around Reitaisai or Comiket. There's stores like Akihaba Hobby that'll occasionally have stock but it's not really possible to know their stock situations.

Not really, but they usually have a sale early in the year and one later in the year. We haven't actually had a normal fumo sale yet this year so based on previous years I suspect a sale should happen relatively soon, unless the deka sale was enough for Gift.

The problem with the normal Touhou fumos isn't really that they are hard to find but more so that they just cost a lot in the aftermarket. If you're willing to spend way above new price then you could easily buy a Cirno right now, unless that's what you meant by hard to acquire.

I have four softs; their arms feel like tubes that are sown onto the main body. There isn't any stuffing where the arm joins the body but there's still a lot of fabric; so it's not just held on by threads, the arm feels solidly attached. They're not floppy, they usually stay in the neutral down position, but if you wave hi with one the arm isn't hard to move and will go right back to where it was when you let go. Fumos aren't poseable at all; I think the only ones that have any sort of wires are Tewi and Reisen, and the wires are only in their rabbit ears.

Right, you asked about the legs as well. They are even more solid than the arms; they are also sown on where the leg meets the main body, instead of the body being one whole piece; but there's as much stuffing where the leg meets the body as there is in the rest of the leg. They move even less freely than the arms. I have three "Gen 1s" and their legs are sewn on such that they don't sit flat naturally; one has a leg that is higher than the other, one has both her legs pointing to the left instead of one to the left and one to the right. I still love them very much. I have a Gen 1.5 Yuyuko that is more solid and the legs are sown on more evenly so she can sit flat.

While making some calculations to optimize shipping I've found out the volumetric weight of a fumo is around 1Kg. That's pretty heavy.

I've had one packed by mistake already and the dimensions given for the package are 27cm × 21cm × 10cm.
Volumetric weight for most couriers (FedEx, DHL) is calculated as (L x W x H / 5000) Kg.
If we remove 0.5 cm from each to account for the box we get 5160 / 5000 = 1.03Kg give or take.
That means if you're shipping 5 fumos the package will count as weighting 5 kilos even though it's actually less than a kilo cause fumos weight around 180g (example with marisa v1).
