>> No.38948675

I’m a student at university, studying Japanese as my major.

Every lesson we have a test, where you basically translate 10 sentences.

Important note! Our tests are graded based on -10 to 10 system. Where -10 is lowest (obviously).

I prepare for every test prior to 2-3 days, I also have a private tutor. She said that I don’t have any major issues with material and show visible progress.

Well, my results show completely opposite point of view:

-2, 4, 3.

More confident I’m in what I write = more worse results I get.

Every time I have to answer during university classes, I feel how my face and body turns hot as if I’m sick, when I know I’m not.

I love studying Japanese and I have motivation to study it, but I don’t know what I’m doing wrong if outside university I feel confident and don’t do any major mistakes.

I’m broken and lost. What should I do next? Is there is a way to escape it?

Been doing Anki on my desktop but I'm going on vacation for a week soon. Can I bring my "save data" onto a laptop by just dragging all of the files into a flash drive and then onto the other device, or how would I do that? the real quotes
>There's not a big augmenting handbook that will give us a bunch of context that he takes the time to write – he's really too busy for that. So we do the text, the scripture that we run off first, and then we have to consult him to find out what the context is so that we don't make errors. Errors are inevitable, if you don't have context, and text alone is not enough to translate correctly."
>"The text was very dense and very unusual," Morris remembers of his first impressions working on Demon's Souls. "It uses a lot of very unusual kanji, which sort of reminds me of the density of some English fantasy translated into Japanese. Translators who were very good, who were able to capture the meaning, but also to adjust it to Japanese so that it has this kind of authentic, archaic feel. It wasn't just a bunch of transliteration of English terms, it was a good localization."

the original lines are
>いそーろう
>そ 今日からこの家に住むことになった木幡真琴
https://streamable.com/qxp3qu

the problem here is the whole point of her saying
>いそーろう
is it is right after a cut with this as the first line, and in japanese the young girl is repeating the word back because it's a new word for her
now in english they couldnt have her say "free... loader?" because it's not a word a child would be that unlikely to know unlike 居候 is shown to be in the original
so the translators basically had to make up something that fit here, but they couldnt really call her a freeloader directly because that's much more meanspirited than 居候 is in japanese so they had to make do with this, which is what is known as a "decent translation"

since the dub completely drops the implied idea of a word like "freeloader" being unknown to the girl, you might as well just change the question.

Sure, you can't give the same exact 1:1 meaning on some contexts because English doesn't have teineigo but that doesn't mean something being fun is understood as something different to a Japanese person. Stuff like something being fun or something being delicious is understood as %99 the same for every person in the world. These concepts exist for every language since it's just primal human nature.

the problem is that if you aren't able to read the original japanese then you have no right to have an opinion on what constitutes a "faithful" translation because you are unable to compare the original
the concept of faith in translation is extremely subjective anyway, some people would say that literal translation is most faithful, but clearly it doesnt represent what the author intended, and that's before we get into whether or not authorial intent is even important in this context

If you a translation in a good faith where you translate a work as close to original as possible that's a faithful translation. If you start inserting your fan fictions in the name of "localization" or just because you find it funny then it's not a faithful translation. Not a hard concept to grasp. the words you mine are not = words you learn/acquire
japanese acquisition happens while youre watching and reading japanese stuff while comprehending what is being said your level of understanding of japanese is directly proportional to the amount of japanese you've consumed (and comprehended)
anki is just a supplement to make the aquisition of some words go a little faster, you can remove it from the process entirely and still learn japanese just fine

I'm not sure what you mean exactly, but I translated that based on 揺るがない自分. the literal meaning of 揺るがない is 'doesn't/won't shake/tremble/etc.', but it's obviously used here in a metaphorical sense. much like the English 'unwaver' which means to not change, do the same thing, stay on the same track, etc.
