Here's a concrete example I came across yesterday. This is a sentence from DoJG illustrating the use of つもり.

DoJG explain that つもり is a noun that means intention/belief, and that it comes after a modifier and expresses that the subject has the intention of performing the modifier's action or belief that it has already been performed. Except that doesn't make sense when you consider the structure.

だ/です can't just mean "is" as in "exists"/ある. It always needs to say that for topic T, subject A is object B. If つもり just meant intention, then the structure of the sentence with the relative clause removed is "As for me, (it) is intention". T is myself, B is intention. What's A? What's the implicit subject here performing the action of being the intention of getting married next year? It cannot be the same as the topic, because "myself" cannot be "intention".

Turns out Dolly has a video about つもり, where she poofs away the confusion. つもり isn't just an intention. A つもり is an intention/conviction that belongs to a specific person. Whenever it is an object of a copular sentence, it is a clarification of what that person's つもり for the given topic is. So for the above sentence, if we're disambiguating and explicitly including the subject, the subject would be "my つもり".

DoJG wrongly assumes that since the topic of the sentence is explicit and subject isn't shown, the subject must be the same as topic, but with Dolly's explanation it's clear that the subject is "my intention", not "myself".

VNs should be your main source of input. Every other form of input is inferior to VNs for learning.
If you have 3 hours available you should spend all of it on reading VNs. Where people fuck up is they spend hours “listening” (actually whitenoising), reading manga, or LNs. You make almost no gains from listening unless you’re already at an advanced level. Manga doesn’t have longer form sentences and is hard to look up words for so you end up not looking up a lot of words and it has furigana which is crippling and you waste time looking at art. LNs are good for advanced level learners but not beginners and intermediates who benefit so much from having context via images and voiced dialogue. Without context and voiced lines a beginner/intermediate will have a harder time deducing the meaning of new grammar patterns and words. Beginner LNs readers are more prone to whitenoising. Better to wait until after N1 for LNs.
