Guide: https://learnjapanese.moe/

be sure to read John's religion/story
>How I got 180/180 on N1 in ~8.5 Months!
https://rentry.org/9pe4o

But essentially what John's method religion IS:

* Start reading every day (and listening)
* Go through a grammar guide (like Tae kim or Cure Dolly)
* Go through a common vocab deck (like core2.3k)
* Mine stuff into Anki that you encounter in your Japanese media

A detailed guide of what John did can be found on
https://pastebin.com/0ANbbfHR

*John Bless your gains

Disregard bad advice frequently posted in these threads. Things to avoid:
・any геddiт """guides""". nothing good has ever come out of геddiт.
・Itazuraneko. Outdated, hard to follow, coin miner, confusing for beginners.
・tatsumoto. It recommends targeted sentence cards, which are proven to be less effective than words cards(animecards).
・Ankidrone Starter Pack. It is based on newspapers from early 90s and additionally sorted in a way that makes learning harder. Try Core 2.3k instead.
・Tatsumoto. Tatsumoto is an infamous spammer. He constantly hijacks our threads to shill his shit.
He isn't an honest person. He is a hypocrite who promotes the exact opposite of what he does.
・Matrix/Telegram. Matrix is malware that runs a data mining operation. DJT has moved to Signal.
・Refold, Migaku and other for-profit companies who want to scam you.
・Namefags, don't waste your time with Attention Whores
・Download 4chan X to filter Namefags

core2k and core6k has pretty much been what people have used here for years and years. it wasn't until 2ish years ago qm decided to make some quality of life improvements and make core3k.

anacreon then took this to the extreme and completely reworked the ordering and size of core based on frequency data from visual novels and other sources (along with other qol improvements). that is core2.3k, and it's currently what you'll find many people endorsing including qm, shoui, jazzy, doth, etc

as the other anon said at some point you just gotta take the plunge and the earlier the better it will never be easy no matter after how many cards you start
also i personally recommend to start with jp-subbed anime, there's audio for every single line and visuals to assist with comprehension, and you have yomichan available which makes it better beginner content than manga (no voices, annoying to mine or look up stuff) or vns (less elaborate visual cues, lots and lots of unvoiced narration in most games)

I aware that it will still be hard in the beginning. The first thing I'm planning on starting out with for my reading is Love Love SIP because I've seen on a list as one of the easiest anime and I've already seen it so I know the context. After that I'll probably move onto more SOL stuff like gochiusa until I'm ready for some basic manga. I also plan on listening to the episodes I have already read through for passive practice.

1) He doesn't know Japanese, nor we have seen videos of him speaking in it.
2) He's Russian.
3) He created a fake "djt" cringecord server where he made numerous racist and trans-phobic comments. He's a racist and a white supremacist.
4) His "server" has nothing to do with the DJT Matrix space.
5) He hosts his site on Github (owned by Micro$oft).

Introduction
What does it take to become a person, and at what point does one cease to be one? Meruem and Gon’s journey of personhood is one of much philosophical significance as it implements many of its different themes. Throughout their exploration of personhood, topics like human nature, existentialism, and good and evil are just some of the complex concepts built into their character development. Throughout this paper, I will analyze each of these concepts and explain how they contributed and molded their character into what we see at the end of the arc.
Human Nature
Meruem’s Ascent To Personhood
At what point did Meruem become a person? To understand this question, one must know what it means to be a person. “A human being regarded as an individual.” By this textbook definition of person, Meruem never became one. To be human is the only requirement of personhood. Meruem, being an ant, is then, despite his complex journey of self-reflection, rationality, and compassion never becomes a person. However, if looked at from a philosophical perspective, being human is far from a requirement of personhood. To Aristotle, personhood is “The capacity to engage in deliberation (prohairesis) and make choices based on it.” By this definition, Meruem became a person the moment he decided not to kill humans. His journey to personhood starts to develop once he meets Komugi, starts questioning if it’s really right to kill off humanity and if his powers are really only meant to destroy. As he carefully thinks of these things rationally, he comes to the logical conclusion that only some humans are worth killing and that his power is not meant for ruling over people but for protecting people. Once this decision was made, according to Aristotle, he

Serious question here: how to keep learning Japanese in a healthy way?

What I mean is that manga, anime, vtubing, wherever (which is the primary source of input for the majority here, I suppose) is too intertwined with hentai, jav, doujinshi, this kinda stuff that I want to get rid of.

If someone managed to keep learning without stumbling on any of it, what should I do? Ditch 2D stuff and keep it to literature and doramas? Is detoxing from porn enough? Is there any hope?

I'd be thankful for any answer I get.

TL;DR: I don't want to acquire japanese and porn addiction at the same time.

simple answer: the people who make the sites are selling things, its why each retard also makes up a new name and acts like they reinvented the wheel, and why people like tatsucuckhold spend all their time spamming here, none of that shit matters, cards are just a stop so you don't forget what you learned elsewhere, you can't learn Japanese (or really anything) from cards, they just help memorize things, or not forget them.

the word かける has like 50 meanings in japanese but they all derive from the same fundamental meaning
it's not "dumb logic" to explain how these meanings influenced the others, it's just a simple observation for why it came mean that way
as i said, people didn't just suddenly start using it in a completely different way, a word they already knew was applied to something else because it fit in a certain way, or the context in which people tended to use the word gave it a certain quality (negative nuance etc)
this is how language evolves. but it's completely insane to claim that all dictionary meanings are completely separate

it's in the advanced options part
this option decides on what anki does when you press again on something.
by default it goes to 0 interval which starts the interval building from the beginning (with lowered ease so more often)
if you turn it up, it will keep some of the interval you had on it before you pressed again, if it's at 0.5 it will keep half of it.
with 0.5 it's kinda like how wanikani does SRS

sentence cards? vocab cards?
how about BOTH
do normal vocab cards but only try to recall the meaning, then when u flip to the back try to recall the meaning based on the sentence/image/sentence-audio context
lets ur reading memory be context independent which is what u want but ties ur meaning memory to a context which is what u want
combines the benefits of both card type into one with no downsides

>it makes sense once you know it
The point is that takes a long time for an English native, longer than any other language - because the grammar, structure, and the way they compose their ideas and sayings etc, is so different to English. Kanji readings are easy as fuck, you just learn words as you come across them, exactly like any other language.
It's the actual grammar and syntax that is fucked up....

>people didn't just suddenly start using it in a completely different way
this doesn't even mean that they use it in the way you think they do, it could be a different etymology and it just fits in with your just so story. i mean it's clear that they have such different meanings to us someone who tries to understand their meanings that they don't seem related at all
