Guide: https://learnjapanese.moe/

be sure to read John's religion/story
>How I got 180/180 on N1 in ~8.5 Months!
https://rentry.org/9pe4o

But essentially what John's method religion IS:

* Start reading every day (and listening)
* Go through a grammar guide (like Tae kim or Cure Dolly)
* Go through a common vocab deck (like core2.3k)
* Mine stuff into Anki that you encounter in your Japanese media

A detailed guide of what John did can be found on
https://pastebin.com/0ANbbfHR

*John Bless your gains

Disregard bad advice frequently posted in these threads. Things to avoid:
・any геddiт """guides""". nothing good has ever come out of геddiт.
・Itazuraneko. Outdated, hard to follow, coin miner, confusing for beginners.
・tatsumoto. It recommends targeted sentence cards, which are proven to be less effective than words cards(animecards).
・Ankidrone Starter Pack. It is based on newspapers from early 90s and additionally sorted in a way that makes learning harder. Try Core 2.3k instead.
・Tatsumoto. Tatsumoto is an infamous spammer. He constantly hijacks our threads to shill his shit.
He isn't an honest person. He is a hypocrite who promotes the exact opposite of what he does.
・Matrix/Telegram. Matrix is malware that runs a data mining operation. DJT has moved to Signal.
・Refold, Migaku and other for-profit companies who want to scam you.
・Namefags, don't waste your time with Attention Whores
Download 4chan X to filter Namefags

TheMoeWay is the best resource.
be sure to read John's religion/story.

>The Ainu were navigators and had a written language that they introduced to the lands where they traveled and settled. They spread from the Nile to Japan. This explains why the Japanese alphabet is almost identical to the Hebrew alphabet. Both are based on the Ainu writing system.
>The Micmac (Mi'kmaq) of Canada are Ainu and the Ainu originated in the Nile Valley. Not surprisingly, some of the most sacred symbols of the Micmac correspond to symbols of ancient Egypt.
>The Ainu were among the aboriginal peoples of the Nile Valley and the rulers of many of the river's shrines. One of their cities was the prestigious shrine city called Iunu, meaning "pillared place of Nu" and known as On in the Bible. The Greeks called it City of the Sun (Heliopolis). They are called Anu, which is also spelled Annu, Ainu, and Ha-nu. The Ainu are said to have a reddish skin tone. It may be the Red Nubians, but more research is needed.
>The Ainu are in haplogroup X, which means they are a first people.

How do you actually memorize words when you encounter them in Anki? My current method is just repeating the definition and the pronunciation in my head several times, but this clearly isn't enough as my short-term retention rate (think the first 3 or so days) is falling.
Ideally I'd rather fix this early so I don't end up having to do 1000 reviews a day.

It's not like I'm not doing a crazy amount of new words/day, just 30.

yes, but encountering them in the wild and recognizing them gives your mind a nice thing to remember instead of 1000 samey example sentences.
example sentences are good for figuring out what the word actually means as the translations can be vague.

I'm trying to get serious about studying Japanese again, but I'm not sure if its worth my time to figure out which of these guides is best. Some of the posts in this thread act like its a matter of life or death. But my impression is that they all have the same basic foundation (do your anki reps + input), and that alot of the fighting is just that people don't like the person behind the guide or like stirring shit to feel superior.

Are there any actual meaningful differences between methods, and are there any legitimate/scientific arguments to justify those differences?

it's common, and really the norm, for literal language to change into or add non-literal meanings. the age demo is also relevent, as the person who made the image is in all likelihood 30 years or younger, so they may not use this prefix in a prescriptive way

what has your day-to-day with mining looked like? are always mining from the time you start immersing to the time you stop? like >>38839441 said, it might be good to set a limit to the amount of time/how much you mine per day. I have had a similar problem with looking words up: I feel like I have to understand all that I can, so if I hear a words I've heard before and/or learned (or, sometimes, even words that I don't think I've heard before), I can't help but to look it up. don't really care about anacreon either way, but I recently rewatched his vid on pausing and thought I would give it a try. I made myself the goal of not looking words up while watching so much content (30 minutes in total), and it was actually liberating. of course I had the urge to pause the videos and look up certain words, but ultimately what thoughts pop into our head are beyond our control. I do believe that with repeated effort you can minimize those undesirable thoughts and focus on what you want to focus on. maybe try giving 'er a shot anon.

looking back, Konosuba was genuinely pretty decent as far as the structure of the individual books was concerned and it delivered on coming up with fresh angles for the comedic setups. the only problem is that the overarching plot never went anywhere and the conclusion is the most unsatisfying bit of sequel bait I have ever read. did nothing with the demon lord's daughter and the demon lord himself didn't do much of anything either. after 17 books that just doesn't cut it for a resolution.
