Alright so I just got 100% on Bansenjin. In some ways it's better than Hachimyoujin and in other ways it's worse, so I guess it all evens out at the end? Regardless, it was fun SoL shenanigans + chuuni autism as expected so all is well. One obvious improvement is the addition of the two new heroines. It's not that I had anything against the original 4 in the first Senshinkan, but Mizuki was pretty much the only one I really found attractive. In Bansenjin, Shizuno is adorable with her retarded fangirl-ness and autism, and Nanten is also pretty great despite being a bit fucked in the head. On that note, the H scenes are way better as well although Hachimyoujin's H was so bad that this wasn't really a high bar to clear. The fanservice 3P scenes were pretty nice though.

I guess it's technically a fandisc so the game is a mix of goofy SOL stuff plus an actual main plot (very similar to hollow ataraxia in that regard). Overall, the main plot is pretty well put together and when things get intense later on, you're subject to the endless walls of autistic Masada action prose (this is why you're here right?). That said, I did think there were several obvious details that could have been done better to make the work better. The plot in the early parts of the game kind of drag a bit to be honest. To be fair, going back and learning about the first loop was not a bad idea, but it felt like it could have been condensed since it rehashes the first game so much. Was it really necessary to see Amakasu visit Seijuurou? Sure that was a nice CG, but I don't think that really added anything we didn't already know from Hachimyoujin. The early parts did have some good scenes in it though like that part with Harumitsu vs Yoshiya while they're breaking through the 4th layer for the first time. That said, the Nobuaki and Nanten subplot is incredible and makes up for my grumbling. I just wish Masada did something different here and maybe explored Keira some more or something instead of giving her the short end of the stick. Another small complaint is that Seishirou being a literal palette swap of Seijuurou seemed really lazy. I get that was the whole point being that he's the second 逆さ十字 and all but that's just too on the nose. They should have just given the guy a different design; it's not like this game was lacking budget.

That aside, all the other new characters/additions are fucking great. As mentioned earlier, Shizuno and Nanten are good and both have nice designs. Kriemhild is cool as fuck and also a cute nazi so that's always welcome. Huang (I think that's how you spell it) looks like a chuuni meth addict or something which fits. Once the plot takes off, it gets pretty good. Masada is such a madman that he does the "it's all a dream lol" twist AGAIN, but it didn't even bother me. The final part is arguably more grand than Hachimyoujin's climax (Yoshiya vs Amakatsu is a better fight though strictly speaking). You have all four 盧生 suddenly appearing via timefuckery. Amakasu and Kriemhild both do the magic summoning/kyuudan shit or whatever and blow shit up. Of course, Yoshiya gets into a manly punchout fight with Huang to make him less of a faggot too.. One small grumble is that Huang is basically a slightly reworked Hajun from KKK. The motivation and character is completely different. But the setup is extremely similar (both villains not being revealed until the end) and their end result is pretty much the same (rejecting connections/bond with others).

Also as an aside, I want to say that the chick that voiced Nanten was amazing. That performance in final scene with Nobuaki and Nanten before the climax of the story was really something else. Hell, Nobuaki and Nanten is arguably the highlight of this entire game.

Starting Arika's route in Bokunatsu, the route doesn't really branch until the festival, which is almost as long as Kiri's (Childhood friend) actual route, so this should be quick. Something that I noticed quickly, even though this is Arika's route, she does not get any scene from her POV whatsoever, Kiri still hogs them all along with MC. Worse, in Kiri's route, both MC and Kiri cling to their past, and their 'love each other but can't express it' feelings towards each other was resolved eventually (with Kiri being extremely possessive to MC once they hooked up), here in Arika's route, the game shows what happens if MC let go of that past and get hooked to his childhood friend's best friend/kouhai instead: Kiri self-destructs. She tries to put 'supportive friend' in front of Arika and MC when they hooked up, but the jealousy inside her quickly ramps up as Arika tells her how romantic MC is and acting like maiden in love in general, losing the closeness Kiri had to both of them, which leads to Kiri's attempt to dig the time capsule by herself in secret even though MC already giving up searching it, desperately clinging to her past when she's still close to MC and regretting that she can't express her true feelings to MC, jealous of how quickly MC and Arika love each other.
This hurts me very much, but in a good way. I played Kiri's route first and love her character, to see her self destruct like this really pains my heart, but its the logical conclusion of her childhood friend love to MC if neither party does anything about it in time: his feelings toward her withers and become unrequited love instead. Can't wait to see how the route ends.

This might be the best gag in the entire game.

Done with Arika's route. Kiri eventually blows out all her feelings bottled feelings toward MC and confess to him, but in the end she let MC go for her kouhai and both MC and Arika sorts out their feelings to each other. It ends much better than Kiri's route, since the importance of the time capsule got downgraded and killed off early in the route, the main conflict gets resolved, and Arika herself got a special CG in the end. Although it's really strange that there is zero POV from her perspective even though it's her route, hell, if I completely focused on Arika and ignore Kiri when she blows up, the route ends as if it was a bad end (no credits) even though it arguably ends happier than the proper end since MC is not being indecisive and not prolonging the love triangle drama between them. Then again, POV change would reveal the small twist in the end (Arika already knows that Kiri loves MC even before she hooks up with MC so I understand why the writer do not write Arika's POV in her own route. Good experience overall.

I got pretty much the exact same vibes from Bansenjin as well. Biggest issue I had with the game was that it feels like it had an identity crisis between a fan disc and full blown sequel. Still a fantastic ride overall. But yeah, Nanten carried the game. I wish eroge had more openly villainous heroines, rather than as some late twist or anything, so you get to enjoy their hijinks through the whole ride. And yes, Keira criminally got the shortest possible end of the stick both in Hachimoyjin and Bansenjin. Such a cool design but wasted character that doesn't actually do anything or get developed into any direction.

the more i reflect on hentai prison, the more i realize it's an incredible piece of achievement by qruppo and eroge as a whole. here's an eroge that is critically thinking about its own position as an eroge in a country that can veer toward sex negativity when scandals happen.
while henpri is definitely a shawshank redemption-inspired prison break title, henpri is more about how ero media creators being stuck in the cartels of the past, the self-censorship of the present, and the haziness of the future, henpri is in fact about the studio qruppo. i've seen comments about how henpri readers unfamiliar with nukitashi were confused by setting details in the grand route but i think you could get what they're aiming at as long as you realize this game is secretly an autobiography about qruppo trying to make eroge in japan. the visual novel features a few scenes that extensively describes their process in designing UIs, just in the words and actions of these henpri characters
but it's important imo that the overall story is about breaking free from a prison that boomers have constructed. the grand route and the epilogue all center around finding meaning and purpose in artistic creation but their main obstacles are the boomers, the past, and our own guilt from being in this system for too long.
we also are afraid of making moves that could embarrass us because we've been brainwashed by this sex-negative capitalism that makes us angry at each other, even the best of us can get overtly cautious about the erotic media we create. the game asks us instead to break free and find paradise to make the eroge we wanna make. indeed, i think the genius of hentai prison is that it's a prison break story that is actually about eroge creators wanting to tell the stories they can't tell because of current regulations and societal norms. qruppo looks back to nukitashi as part of their struggle to do this. there's a few instances especially in the grand route that definitely show this critical reflection of their output, even if they think it's a bit juvenile and henpri concludes with a sigh of accomplishment, which is such an impressively matured thing to do imo.
so i think henpri is like this testament, this manifesto written by qruppo to show to other creators and readers this is what we could do with erotic media like eroge and this message is really helped by the characters -- average people who lost time due to prison. henpri isn't sakura no uta where everyone's a goddamn artistic genius or shirobako where everyone's more or less a professional in the industry
these are just people whose skills are questionable at best and lost ample time due to prison but they just wanna make their eroge
and that's what makes henpri work so well for me, that these people are honestly average weirdos i'm p sure that's what qruppo staff views themselves as too, which is not merely an act of humility it's them recognizing we should all make our own eroge regardless of talent or time. i have a lot of thoughts on hentai prison and qruppo that i'm still writing up

Henpri shunts a lot of the side character and low-effort gag stuff off to background conversations, so you can largely ignore it if you want. It improved the pacing quite a bit.

There's nothing in the game that's clearly baiting for another sequel/fandisc, but there's also plenty of material for them to mine for one if they wanted to. Yugao and Julia are way less sympathetic than Tohka or Ikuko, but there's enough redeeming qualities there to turn them into heroines. Overall the main appeal of this series for me is the combination of tentacle/ akuochi porn with a grand world conqouring story. Savior delivers on it but didn't really add anything intersting or unique to the premise. Compared to lagoon, Savior drops the ball in the chaos route. It's a mess filled with no name 黒幕’s and uncanny character changes. The subtitle of the game suggest that Akuochi was gonna be the highlight of the game, but i found all the corruptions arcs to be extremely weak. Specifically Himika who had barely any setup. Nothing comes even close to Tia's arc in Lagoon, which is why i can't recommend anyone to play Savior one over it.
The gameplay is mostly the same with some streamlining. It's nothing special but building a uberunit that oneshots 3 squads in 1 turn will always be fun.Highlights of the game are Terion's high jinks, Ishtar's creepy pasta form, Himika's fat ass and Aoba Ringo's overacting.

The first half is good but it kind of fell off in the latter half of season 3(i think?) when R07 decides he wasn't preachy enough and has his characters repeat the same stock phrases. At least for me. Your mileage may vary, and I do remember there were some interesting bits in RGD. There was a cool scene where Alan talks about how the Japanese and Chinese will never understand each other, and there was a scene where it delved into the background of a film director (i forgot his fucking name) which was pretty memorable.
