What the fuck is the appeal of seafood? I can't understand it. Please describe why and how you first got into it. The taste is horrible and dull. The dishes are incredibly bland and stupid. And the animals are just really generic fishes

Insanely excessive frills and ridiculous hats are about as far on the opposite spectrum as bland as you can get, in my opinion.
Would you find it more interesting if they were all drawn in gap collection apparels or something of that sort?

In my opinion, the character designs aren't stupid nor boring. Most of them, at least. The universe is fairly interesting, and the games are fun. Generic? Maybe, who knows. However, they entertain me, and I believe that's enough. Plus, I haven't ever seen another shmup with that whole spell card mechanic. If you know of any other, please inform me and pardon my ignorance.

I got into it because I am curious. I remember having seen people hijacking threads and posting hundreds of Touhou-related pictures, others cursing the so-called "Touhoufags" and some kind of popularity contest. I did some research, got one of the games and tried it - and it was completely different from anything I'd tried before, difficult but beautiful, and fun. Getting all other games, falling in love with the music and collecting pictures of the characters was just a matter of time. Or something like that.

Touhou was my second experience of "bullet hell" gaming, the first being Mushihime. I found Touhou that much easier to play, so I stuck with it.

Nowadays I don't play video games anymore, so I just collect artwork.

Then the games turned out to be fucking awesome, and the fanbase was far from shit (not to mention that they had drawing skills)

I watched some IOSYS videos, and decided to try the games they were based on.
I was pleased, until the 3rd boss.
Then I gave up...

A japanese-uni-student friend force fed the touhou games to me back in early 2007. I'd never played anything like it at the time, so it was pretty cool. After that I got to watch it generate a huge retarded English fanbase and hundreds of thousands of mostly mediocre fan-works and song remixes. I mean, the stuff ZUN composed is pretty good, but ~100 remixes per original song is a little unnerving.

tl;dr I enjoy it and play it occasionally but i'm not whoamg batshit crazy about it

What can I say?
It has some deep work in it, a lot of irony, it's a fun game, it has beautiful patterns.
You may not like it, but I happen to like ZUN's drawing style better than any fan-art or iosys video I've ever seen, just from the recognishion of all the amazing stuff he put together.

Try Imperishable Night. If you don't become addicted to it after beating the Extra stage, you're a faggot.
