I am Japanese.
Nowadays, plagiarism by the artist 「古塔つみ(cotoh tsumi)」is becoming a big issue in Japan.
He is also plagiarizing for a government project.
Since the case has become so big, he is leaving Japan and trying to work abroad.

He will also be participating in the NFT art event in Moscow starting February 24.
There is a possibility that Tsumi Furuta is cheating.

Please see the summary. Please help us.

There's only one here that's actual plagiarism. imo if the drawn version is derivative enough from the source like most of these pics it's fine. Otherwise it's like getting assmad at photorealistic drawn art

In Japan, this act is not tolerated.
Goods using his illustrations have been suspended one after another.
He has also been suspected of falsifying his gender and having girls send him photos.
But the Japanese media is not reporting on him.
But the Japanese media is not reporting on him because they have media people as fixers.

But this artist shows 400 pieces a year and most of them are made by plagiarism.
In Japan, plagiarism is discovered every day.
I've never seen an artist this bad.

This artist has abandoned Japan and is trying to work in China.
Of course, the works exhibited in China as originals are plagiarized.
But it is very difficult to post on Chinese forums from Japan.
That's why I posted the thread here.

i don't honestly know what's OP's deal.
who knows, these might just be practice or even sample art. One of the reasons why japanese artists on twitter at times delete their works after some time is that they're mostly derivative works. Well if it's habitually done then that's already a different case and it can also be considered overt plagiarism. Even one of the "plagiarized" art is the artist's actual twitter header.

I mean, looking at the OP pic, the Leon the Professional one (left column, first one) is easily identified as a inspiration/photoreference since it's a very well known movie but the Life is Strange one (middle column second one) seems like a real stretch.

Hey BeatOldTower, I have a question for you.

What is wrong with the Japanese artists' attitude toward their artwork? Japanese artist don't seem understand how the internet works, or how international borders work. It's not 1995 anymore, friend. Once you post your art online, it's online FOREVER. People will copy it. People will edit it. People will make derivative works based on your work. And they'll do all of that outside of Japan where your country's laws have no sway.

So many Japan creators do stupid nonsense like IP restricting to only Japanese IP addresses, or adding some stupid Japanese-only "security question" to their shitty 1990s era HTML homepage, or banning non-Japanese comments. It's 2022 lol, everyone has VPNs and Google translate now. Whenever I find Japanese content that has been "locked" like this, I try to copy it and share it outside of Japan as much as possible. This "secret club" attitude, this "this is my artwork! DO NOT STEAL!" attitude is pathetic. If you're not emotionally mature enough to handle other people copying your art online, don't fucking post it online. If you can't handle people outside Japan looking at or "stealing" you art (lol!) don't fucking post it online. Welcome to the year 2000. I hope this artist does very well at his exhibition.

It's like applying a modern art gallery mindset to everything that they do. Even in the olden days there were workshops where many artists did derivative versions of the same painting, paying homage to one another, picking up techniques, etc etc

However, I can't agree with all of it, because a manga artist I know was upset about unauthorized reproduction.

But I guess that's because he has respect for the work he's referring to.
