NFTs allow famously underpaid Japanese people to be paid extraordinary amounts of money for random shit. I've seen single anime arts sold on Foundation for more than an animator makes in an entire year. Everybody wants to get rich quick.

It's because cancel culture isn't everyone's hobby in the east, as opposed to the west. It's something new so the wholesome mind of the japanese person thinks it's a cool thing to get into. I don't blame them, I like seeing them have fun with it.

>How did we end up here?
Idealism died a slow death while the industrial revolution happened, materialism and utilitarianism became the fundaments of society which gave birth to capitalism and marxism then communism, capitalism won, then the digital revolution happened and now traditionally idealist matters like art not only must be quantified in discrete material quantities like money to have value, but they also must be digified therefore you get NFTs.
To go back at "making something for the sheer joy of the act of creation and seeing your imagination realized" we should first go back to an idealist mindset where the idea and representation is more important than the material.
Not sure if what I wrote makes sense but I'll post it anyway.

Most doujin artists actually have a job if they're out of college, though they are unlikely to mix that with their personal account. Going full-time and doing OC is another thing altogether, of course.

Unless >>38711583 is not including patronage for some reason yeah that's just misinformed.

I will say that tit-for-tat production of art products for sale to any willing individual, commission or otherwise, was not a normal way for an established artist to make a living, in European culture until the 18th and increasingly the 19th century. Before then it was a means to get clout if you were outside the traditional training/apprenticeship system, and generally stunk much more than having patrons because of the lack of consumers outside of the wealthy.

NFTs are on the far end of the commoditization of the intangible, so I do agree with him on that much.

Youd have to be retarded yourself to think they we're not a minority. Even artistic goods would be in itself practical goods like pots, a form of tool or weapon or an architectural feature, to name the few that jump to mind.
Art, as a sport let's call it, for the mere sake of portraying beautiful things was expensive for one, and two - because it makes someone feel a desired experience - a good in and of itself. It raises a properties value and in some cultures ans understandings it raises a person's value and status. Shit takes money in that way; its an investment. Even then art as i said was a more practical thing, either etched into the mundane parts of living and the common man's possession or public possession; namely religion, and again, religious architectural features
(read: the pyramids, greek and egyptian temples, the vatican all of it :])
>>38712218
I suppose you wouldn't include it because one can make the argument you do the art for the patronage, not much unlike wageslaving, than what this absolute ideal would imply. Which seems more to what contemporary people can do which is make a shitty mspaint image in their computer and feel happy, in essence. To be clear im making a hypotension character in my head not making a point of something or someone

>>38712649
>I suppose you wouldn't include it because one can make the argument you do the art for the patronage, not much unlike wageslaving, than what this absolute ideal would imply.
>>38712218 here , that is a mischaracterization of traditional patronage in that it is comparable to wageslaving. Well, unless you consider single-scale entrepreneurship inherently different from wageslaving.

With wageslaving you are given set tasks to perform to expected metrics and are evaluated upon those metrics to determine your current employment.
With traditional patrons, who are just as likely to like your art as to like patronizing you, you are instead hired for your artistic ability, and while you are assigned tasks you are given much more leeway in how you realize these assignments as long as the patron approves. This generally gave the artist more liberties in managing finances and exercising standards to meet their ends than any sort of white collar profession could provide. On one hand if you went bust without something to show you would be held to greater consequence, but on the other hand the option for greater creative license was available if you could make it work. But it was complete suck if your patron was complete suck as well.

Modern patronage in forms like Patreon/Fantia/Fanbox/etc. is less forgiving to the artist in that you have a more piecemeal/splintered system where individuals vote with their currency of choice, but it is still preferable to the "fair" systems of traditional doujin market, or even traditional OC manga publishing norms if one accrues enough patrons. It's just a different, and IMHO much more stressful, juggling act to balance.

Yooooooooooooooooo rich dude here, very few people are actually buying and selling NFTs, it's all just money laundering
in the past few months a bunch of normalmen jumped into the NFT craze (cuz celebs did) but they're barely able to flip them for any value
The reason why these things have so much value is because of people buying them off of themselves (anonymously) then selling it for USD with a huge tax reduction by claiming it's an art sale
Lots of normalniggers have their feet in NFTs at this point but none of them will see their cash back, I think the value of the NFT market dumped 75% in one day last week

The people who manage to genuinely flip NFTs for big profit already have a lot of cash, they firstly create the NFT, then anonymously buy it off of themselves, then list it at a higher price, then repeat by purchasing it anonymously again, and eventually a fool who perceives it as an NFT mooning in value offers to buy it, and the fool will never see their money back
There is a small chance that an ultimate final fool will come along and offer the former fool a higher price for that NFT but it's just smoke and mirrors

I have no idea who youre trying to argue against or what point rather. In any case I would say that you are partly wrong, in traditional patronage youre at the whim of one retard, maybe a hanful of retards. On a modern setting you're beheld to MANY way too many retards, and they love to communicate anx influence each others opinions. Even more so the work is both the art and your public life and both must be to a standard of again, the whims of the retards.

In both cases there is actually a currency to take care of: reputation. But it is quite easier to make one foul out of a good one currently than it was for a technically competent artist in the past to ruin his own. Shit, due to the shortage a of technically skilled people then even if they fell off grace from a patron if they had a reputation acquired they would be desired by another noble mc richpants. Conversely today we have stuggle to care about anyone because they juggle reputation with thousands or they are never found for one crucial thing:
We have an overabundance of imbeciles who can draw in technically competent ways now.

A common symptom of a coming financial crash is increasingly extreme and outlandish speculation because more safe investments run out and inflating currency makes gains look big. The effects of the world economy shutting down for two years and phenomenal amounts of money being printed worldwide will not go away soon. Japan is not isolated from this.
I hope the anime and doujin industries don't suffer too much from this like what happened in the 90's.
