I've got nothing against Jazzy herself as a person (and don't know jack about Doth for better or worse).

It's just that their post, and the whole fallout of it, brought literally nothing to the table for me other than a resounding bout of disappointment in myself. She didn't use new strategies or figure out The Trick to Japanese. She just did what most people seem to do - study, immerse in native content that interests you, take notes, review - but to an insane, borderline superhuman level of dedication. The takeaway is "study 6 hours a day, every day, for a year, and you can do it", and... no. Can't, won't. So the actual takeaway is "you're a failure that refuses to put in the effort", my words, not theirs.

Couple that with their newfound minor celebrity status, and this sub not being useful to me in a LONG time beyond all the drama and meta discussions, and I'm probably better off just peacing out and continuing my studies by myself.

core is aimed at you doing the least cards possible before mining, its the least vocab you can have and sorta enjoy yourself (tho things like tadoku/hukumusume dot he same thing), idea is youll get the japanese from whatever the fuck it is you actually want to read/do with the language (which for most people isn't cards)

tango is sentence cards that aim to each you japanese, through using cards, imho it doesn't work especially well because people tend to memorize the sentences (which is easy), and not the words themselves (which is harder).

honestly the hardest part of japanese is grasping the underlying logic of things (which is very different from english), and you really only do that through reading a lot of things

the reading on the other hand is the single thing you have to brute force memorize.

if you test just for reading you are ALOT faster done and can get back to true immersion like reading a novel. frustration and attention levels arent taxed as much either - its closer to the "browsing" theory that steve kaufmann propagates.
