It was sad and a lot of suffering but it's nice that the True End really feels like a good payoff that's earned. Takeuchi: I created it because I just liked it, and I wanted to make something like Tsukihime, but more sophisticated. I changed the character's gender, in order to have them fit in with the gamers today. As a product I do feel like it has grown much more than I expected. Whenever we said that 『Fate』 was over and done with, it would refuse to die. I suppose it’s only natural to love and revere something that you have spent so much time cultivating and being so fulfilled by, and to become so attached to it. I don’t mean to be obsessive, but I do want to treat this with utmost care, as we have done up until this point.

Nasu: 5 years ago we said that "this will not go beyond one product," but even saying TYPE-MOON now is just another word for 『Gundam』. It just keeps changing forms and moving forward. That’s not to say we’re just artificially extending it, of course. 『Fate/EXTRA』 was a good test for us. It was fun to write, and fun to make. If the players also enjoys it then it’s a Win-Win, is it not?

Takeuchi: 『Fate』 is really interesting isn’t it? We have the room to think about new possibilities. We will not make a direct sequel, but we’ll go for anything that seems interesting.

Visitor from /tg/ here. My players want me to run them something Fate-related, so I thought to come here to get some advice. I already know that the players will all be Masters with their own Servants, as well as which system (not 5e) that we'll be using. Where I'm stuck is coming up with a setting that isn't just "Fuyuki, but somewhere else." I thought about doing an interplanetary thing set on Mars or on Europa, but I worry that's too far out for servants, or that it would just be CCC/Extella with a fresh paint.

Taking a cool idea and bending Fate to work with it is the right call, since that's what TM authors basically do anyway. Canon/rules/etc are all secondary to an interesting story. All the weird stuff with stats in Fate is a result of Nasu carrying over TTRPG conventions from when he used to DM, so you're in good company at least.
A really easy method would be doing some FGO type "sending a group of masters and servants to solve x problem." You could jump around in time or stay in one setting if your players like it. Setting it in space sounds pretty cool too, though.
Dunno how high effort you want to go, but you could always do a one-shot to get a feel for what works before planning something bigger.

Hm. I did plan on running them through a oneshot before I committed to making a setting appendix. That way if they disliked either the setting or the system I could pivot into something else.
You've made a good point that many of the TM writers bring Fate to an idea rather than an idea to Fate. My strongest idea (imo) involves a terraformed Mars in 21XX. The settlements there are brimming with mana, making it easy to summon and sustain Servants. But no one knows where all the mana is coming from. Tack on a string of disappearances and murders, as well as a few "accidents" at the shipyards, and there's enough of a hook there for the players to go investigating. The deeper they get, the more the folks behind the scenes are going to try and kill them. Making it very important for the players to stick close to and care for their servants.
