Ah ok, I avoided it my first playthrough since I thought it was going to be some sort of fetish one.

Though not 2hu, it is indirectly as it's based on TohoK. After playing AL-K for a bit, I can kind of see how they wanted to go with it, and actually like the combat system it has (Air Strikes -> Torpedo -> Normal ship brawling), as opposed to TohoK's 'just bring big number' system. Though in that sense skills are a lot less important (and there are significantly less skills compared to TohoK). The Stroll base command also at least gives more things to do in Base mode when you have a lot of AP other than just constantly banging everyone or just ending your turn with AP unspent.

The only issues I've had with it so far is that it's pretty resource-heavy (might be because I downloaded and used all the additional images/bgms), to the point where the game actually hung forever and died when an AL girl gave birth to a Replicant and I tried to name the child. The AI acts much 'slower' (or maybe only slower with the AL-Patch thing?), and for some reason they're not as likely to grab wanderers or have wanderers join them. You can't seem to Recruit wanderers unless you've met them before, which is an issue because even if you start as a wanderer you can't talk to any of the wanderers. Unless you're supposed to use the R&D Shipyward to find the location of a wanderer and nightcrawl them first? The wanderers also seem to join special factions with the same weighting as normal factions (when they do start joining themselves), so it's like they willingly want to get raped or something.

Other than that money seems hard to come by, if you're not doing the Engineer trait exploit. Arena ('Drill') money gain is smaller but can be done every turn, but while Labor spends AP to do instead the money gained per AP use seems to drop the more labor you perform in that single turn (even if done across multiple characters), and the money gain is already low. You also need to spend money to get ship equipment for your shipgirls, and generic shipgirls spawn naked, making them just as useful as a human until given stuff. No one buys/upgrade gear or retrofit (if possible) either, so everyone stays with what they have until they're under your control (if you get them gear/retrofit).

Though not an 'issue', I have a gripe about the Slave Market in AL-K because it doesn't list beyond 5-6 captured units at most, and if you play with generic characters you can never save specific characters from surrendering because they never show up on the list. At least there isn't any favour degration like TohoK, so you can't 'lose' progress with specific units just because you couldn't save them.

Overall, AL-K looks like it can be a pretty good but still needs a bit of work before it's really playable. But looking at the official JP era wiki, it looks like the author was called out for using official images from AL and agreed to withdraw from the wiki. Is it actually still being worked on by the original author, or was it abandoned because of that?
