I've been wanting to step down from top mod from my 515k user subreddit but I can't guarantee that the next top mod won't pull something like this in the future. I'm only staying on for insurance and the whole mod team knows.

It's a good thing I stayed on because we recently removed our 2nd place moderator after a bunch of drama.

Speaking as the 2nd place moderator (well, technically 5th place behind two automods and the other mod that was ahead of me by 1 hour) that was removed after that bunch of drama, I agree with this. It's good to have a benevolent top mod for a failsafe as there have been cases of long cons (XKCD famously was victim to this once).

Like LordQuorad, I'm the lead mod of a large sub (a VR social platform) that I don't participate in. Hell, a few years back I was asked by the owners of the game to hand it over to other mods that happened to also be employed by the company. Tried to explain it's best for the sub and their game if there's a level of separation and feels like the right call. Beyond that, I try to get mods that want to have a productive community/subreddit.
