And I think that's literally the only way you could make a story-based game with Vocaloids work. If they're the focus you're gonna have to give them a personality and it would suck. With sekai they have the most bare-bones personalities everyone can agree with (Kagamines being energetic, Luka more reserved, Kaito a dork) and they can be someone the real world characters can bounce off of.

Since most of the real world characters are basically just regular people, seeing them interact with Vocaloids feels great because you feel like that could be you up there, basically living the dream.

But of course it does bring the zoomer weeb crowd fandom along with it which can be extremely annoying, some of them are even disrespectful as fuck saying they refuse to play songs with virtual singer vocals because they suck or whatever. In the end I think it's still a net positive, it's hard to get new people into Vocaloid after all these years and this game definitely helps with that, even if only a little.

I've never noticed. KAITO seems to be popular enough but thinking about it his popularity seems to come from him as a character rather than as a voice bank. VY1/VY2 also got a push in popularity thanks to producers like EZFG, but i don't think they ever got mainstream adoption.

How come Vocaloid songs are all of such high quality? Here and there, there's a song made by a tone deaf author. But the instruments are always at the minimum of acceptable quality.

However, if I search for original songs, without the Vocaloid keyword, everything that I find is always awful. Like, people singing on their guitar, with a really awful recording. In comparison to those people, even the worst Vocaloid producer is good.

This is the best advice you could ever give to anyone who wants to find new songs and this is what I realised too a year later I got into vocaloid as well. Having 99.999% of songs collected under one tag/label creates a giant ever expanding set of music which you can tap into anytime to get new additions for your playlist, discover new genres and producers. You could do this without applying no other filters at all to get music from every genre, or do the opposite to get songs featuring a specific singer or genre etc. Listening to Vocaloid music is like going out to the local strawberry field during the summer for the pick it yourself discount. The fact that you have access to this well organised source of free music of almost every kind, where all you have to do is click next until it sounds good is one of the greates strengths of the Vocaloid scene. When VocaloPs go out for drinks together they probably share some tips on how to tune, arrange, mix, etc. There's also places like that DTM website that give amateurs a decent jumping off point. btw there's no reason to link the old masstagging paste anymore. the rewrite is the same method just hopefully easier to understand since i didn't go off on an autistic tangent this time or include things of personal interest.

i spoke to some people around the interwebs, including some of vocadb and unfortunately found out that there is still no automated way of tagging vocaloid albums despite them having that swanky API. vocadb uses the same framework as its sister sites like utaite and touhou DB, so it's entirely possible there's demand for a tagging foobar component for all these sites. with how doable the project is and how much i personally want to see it happen i may end up commissioning the project.

i think the way it would work would be quite simple and similar to the existing foo_discogs component. just use the album or directory name (fallback if album field not present) to query vocadb, list the results with miniature thumbnails, pick the correct album, it'll request tags and album photos (auto-specify filename 'cover.jpg') then you could also pick which fields to put where (japanese song title in title metadata, romaji title in filename?) and foo_customdb support would also be nice (custom metadata fields; so you could store vocadb's entry page ID for example, or all artist aliases/circle names, etc.)

the simplest thing is that is should just werk. if it could be utilized in a batch fashion that'd be the best.

so im going through the pdaft install guide (im not the anon asking about mods) im on step 4, ironically the mod pack. pic related, the files have a .001-.008 extension. i assumed i needed to remove the extra numbers so theyre just .7z files. i tried to extract the one i renamed but got the error in pic related. i consider myself to be pretty computer savvy but this doesnt make sense. when i downloaded the mod pack, i clicked "download all" and google drive zipped the files again. am i supposed to just download them one by one? did google drive zipping them together fuck something up?

you don't have to register, the account is only used for PPD online integration and for other online interactions within the website. everything is laid out in a layout that makes sense, change the language first to English if you don't know japanese. if you use PPD you'll have to download the chart and the MV from youtube/niconico with yt-dlp or other youtube downloader and put it in the chart folder. if you use project heartbeat, you can just paste the chart link in the ppd downloader and it'll do everything for you.
the charts are here if you still can't find it. make sure to use japanese titles when you're searching for a chart. there's also a bunch of arcade ports but i don't know why would anyone want that, it's 36 GB, just download AFT.

i've never seen a guide in all these years posted here or in any vocaloid thread. i've only heard that western P's have great difficulty accessing tutorials that are even in english.

the closest i got to working with vocaloid was installing a 'trial' version of the software for a day just to realize i have zero ambition or drive to do anything with it. if i ever got anywhere with it i'd be more than happy to help newcomers with it too.

if you're saying you also have zero knowledge about music composition, it might be better to learn an instrument to some proficiency, like piano, then getting familar with a DAW like Cubase, just to make the transition into vocaloid easier. i'm not saying i've done it but those are the peaks we're staring up at. take it easy.
