I actually think the lead-up and the "Can you keep up with me?" scene was done fairly well. My main issue with it is that the Emiya theme used during the sequence was extremely flaccid and didn't match up with the intended energy of the scene. Also the scene where he actually executes NLBW was pretty terrible as well.

I saw a fan-edit of the scene on youtube a long time ago which actually improved the scene, but I lost the link to it. Regardless, it just proved that the scene could've been way better with faster editing and better music.

I just got around to watching the El-Melloi special and I noticed at the beginning here the definition of Projection magic seems different from what we already know in F/SN. The way Kayneth describes it in the OVA makes it sound like some kind of Reality Marble (projecting inner world out into the outer world), but wasn't this explanation used to describe Shirou's unique flavor of projection? Not projection magic in general? Even Rin comments that Shirou's projection magic is different from the traditional projection magic used by Clock Tower magus since he directly "pulls out" weapons from UBW.

He's pretty good. People forget that most writers write garbage once in a while yet think Nasu is the only one guilty of this. When he's at his peak, he's one of the best in the VN industry. His character writing and emotional moments are incredible. Not to mention his directing skills that make F/SN and F/HA so much better than most VNs. He isn't perfect, but his stories speak to me so I can look past some of his flaws as he's able to write a satisfying story with a good ending most of the time unlike his contemporaries like R07. He also doesn't go for tropes that I hate like the power of friendship and other tired tropes that are across the industry. His characters feel real to me and even if they're tropey at times, they still stand out in their own ways.

Not really, Arc's only a character in some routes but she's relevant and a character in all two of those routes, and she's the main girl/title character blah blah.
Hisui is good but ironically its because she's always there in every route, just being a pretty normal strict maid without any major visible wacky baggage until you've gone 3 or 4 routes in and probably already made up your mind
