Isoroku's ending, while not exactly canon (didn't happen the same way but she's pregnant in canon), is any indication of the future... indeed, Rance will have strong ties in each of the four countries (and possibly a child of each race), and be the one to lead the entire world against the Demon Army.

We assume that 8 will involve Sill getting unfrozen and possibly Rance's Kalar daughter being conceived, we *know* 9 will be the Helman arc and we assume 10 will be the super badass, canon equivalent of Kichikuou Rance.

So they're remaking Rance 2 instead, since it's pretty short.

Demon army soldiers are not retarded fucktwats that remain fighting with zombies and monsters, Kou is happy because her brother is actually saved. Kenshin makes for an awesome empress (she's just awesome in general). Japan is united without too much bloodshed. Sill isn't frozen etc.

Takeda's cavalry heroes are incredibly hard to deal with... 2000~3000 cavalry units can beat down footsoldier squads with less then 900 units with ease. Whats worse... They can just rape your backrow units if they so desire.

Another way is letting your units (Tacticians and some Ninjas I think) learn the "Battle Rating Up" or "Battle Rating Down"-Skill and/or the "Initial Battle Rating"-passive ability or get some strong Diviners, power them up and use Shikigami while turtling. Both work great, if you have Hojo Soun or Omachi you really just need to turtle and use one Shikigami to win any battle. Then again, you already won almost every battle if you have one of those two.

Is Sooun really that awesome? In my first play through I mostly ignored the tri-force party and in my second one I just made them my vassal

Taking andou and natori as powerlevel comparisons, how does sooun rank?

Also any advice getting Sat higher then 120? Once I get it around that level it seems increasingly harder getting it up.

Sounn is the second best diviner after Omachi and is awesome. His special summoning is like summon ogre plus but only takes 1 action point. He also starts with all 8's? for stats or so. I would rank him higher then natori

Natori is percentage hax, very few can even compare to her if you use her right. But he's definitely several leagues above Andou.

Soun is kinda difficult to acquire though, but he's very good.

The thing about Soun is, he's an elite unit. But, you get him by random turn events, sometimes very late game, so sometimes you don't get the chance to build his army size properly.

Other elite units like Omachi or Takeda can be had from the beginning of the game, it's completely unfair.

You can't capture them from uesugi house. Unless you start with the Uesugi bonus however they'll join other countries after you defeat uesugi and you can capture them there.

I finished the Monkey Kill Route, the Kenshin Route and ofc the True History Route. Now I've started another game and can't decide which route to choose because:
- I don't have points for Monkey Kill and don't want to repeat it that badly anyway
- The best thing about the Monkey Kill Route in my opinion was the absence of the demon army
- The best thing about demon army routes was the absence of the Shimazu "lol i steal ur waifu"-event.

I don't really have the nerve to get Nanjou Ran to Love (annoying bitch) though so I guess I'll just speedrun through True History again. Still kinda sucks though :/

So I just finished the last route (Ran, for me) 5 minutes ago. Oh god what an amazing game that was.

My favorite route overall is easily Kenshin's, but I think I liked Isoroku's ending the most and Ran's spares Chinu, Shimazu, and Ran herself so all the IF routes are awesome. True History, oddly enough, is by far my least favorite route.

My favorite characters are Masamune and Nobunaga.

IN THEORY. Devils and gods can bypass a demon's invincibility barrier, but they aren't necessarily strong enough to beat Demons. Ferris for example, is a fairly low ranking Devil, so she can't beat most Demons (Kentaro MAYBE, not that they'd ever fight).

Chaos and Nikkoku or whatever her name is are two of the Eternal Heroes (the strongest party in human history). The party met with one of the supreme gods (Planner I think) and were each granted a wish (except the leader British). Chaos and Nikkoku wished for a way to beat demons, and were turned into swords that bypass a demon's natural barrier.

None other in English.
Kichikuou has similar gameplay mechanics and the first to have a truly expanded /prototype' Rance world. Massive and awesome.
From the dungeon/adventure games, 3 and 6 are the best. 1 and 2 are old and short, 5d is small with few locations and characters (and where current art direction started) and teh Rance 4 games(.1,.2 ) are in the middle.

All games before 5 are now freeware IIRC.

Rance world got big with 3, where two huge nation played an important role.
Kichikuou, which came after 4, features the WHOLE Rance world in a prototype form, including JAPAN. It's not exactly the same though. Currently, about 60% of the Rance world has been explored (Helman, Demon Realm and Kalars are not explored yet in the continuity).

I love the current art direction.

Reading on how the ranceworld's 'after life' (if you can even call it such) works kinda sucks though. A giant white whale upper god that usually just wants people to suffer? If you die your soul just gets a format and gets recycled again. Demons actual serve the intended purpose of fucking with humans, they were even made for that shit by said whale.
One of those legendary hero guys learned about all that and just... gave up caring. Yeah well, I would too if I were him. Depressing shit is depressing. Rance's way to live suddenly doesn't look so bad anymore.

Japanese stuff often seems to take a pretty poor view on Gods and stuff. Rance is kind of polytheistic, even though it has one supreme guy, but most Abrahamic-type religions or Gods in anime/manga/games etc tend to turn out being the bad guys.

Hey JP, I've completed all the routes in Rance now. I want to play more to get all the CG, but I don't really want to devote my full concentration to it, as it is a very time intensive game.

I don't really like playing games in windowed mode, particularly when they are 800x600 or whatever Rance is. Does /jp/ know of a way to change the windowed res of Rance? I want it to be stretched out so it covers my entire secondary screen, but without fullscreening it, so I can do other things on my primary monitor.

You know, 800x600 doubled would be 1600x1200, which still fits in a standard (1920x1200) computer screen, without blurring the image, and I too have often thought how nice it'd be to have an option to double the image size for 800x600 games.
Sadly I've never seen such an option even in recent games. A program that could do that would be pretty damn awesome.

I'm eagerly awaiting Rance 02. Then I can texthook it and look up any kanji I don't know (that's a lot of kanji).
